LSE should be on the frontlines in defence of higher education/academic freedom, not participating in this celebration of the racist politics of those who seek to undermine it.

The death of Jason Arday is devastating.

There are so many questions that need to be answered. The level of harassment he suffered and the racism he was subjected to, has been sickening. It must be investigated.

Right now, a young man has lost his life. All of my thoughts and love are with Jason’s family, friends and colleagues.

LSE now says it won’t give enhanced redundancy payments to academic staff at risk. It will give them to professional services staff. Why can’t LSE pay the academic staff it dismisses? Why has this been decided before collective consultation even begins?

In Feb 2025, President Kramer said his “Operations Excellence Programme” would cost £9.7 million. In Feb 2026, he said there are no plans for redundancies. Now we have a collective consultation on 52 redundancies. How many jobs could be saved with that £9.7 million?

Individual redundancy consultations going ahead before collective consultation begins. Some told it’s not a real redundancy consultation, some told it is. In some of those consultations, LSE isn’t even following the correct redundancy procedures, breaching our members’ contracts.
