Depends on your goal. Comprehensible Input (eg Dreaming Spanish) is a far more effective way to learn to understand what people are saying, achieve fluency faster etc. Duolingo is underrated for its ability to make you show up, which is its only real goal ("you can't teach someone that isn't there")

You're at a business event. ~1% of the attendees have (intentionally) shit themselves, and are waiting for you to ask them about the smell. This is how it feels to use LinkedIn.

I'm so sorry I can't stop laughing. OpenAI, the company built on stealing literally the entire internet, is crying because DeepSeek may have trained on the outputs from ChatGPT. They're crying their eyes out. What a bunch of hypocritical little babies. Cry more, freaks. www.ft.com/content/a0df...
OpenAI says it has evidence China’s DeepSeek used its model to train competitor
White House AI tsar David Sacks raises possibility of alleged intellectual property theftOpenAI says it has found evidence that Chinese artificial intelligence start-up DeepSeek used the US company’s proprietary models to train its own open-source competitor, as concerns grow over a potential breach of intellectual property.
The San-Francisco-based ChatGPT maker told the Financial Times it had seen some evidence of ‘distillation’, a technique used by developers to obtain better performance on smaller models by using outputs from larger, more capable models. This allows them to achieve similar results on specific tasks at a much lower cost.
OpenAI declined to comment further on details of its evidence. Its terms of service state users cannot “copy” any of its services or “use output to develop models that compete with OpenAI”.

X replies are "CLAUDE ISN'T CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET!" fair enough, I am dumb, but...shouldn't that have been Claude's response too?

this is WILD i asked Claude to check a writer's article for plagiarism it listed multiple examples + the sites it had plagiarised so i asked for links to check for myself... and the AI admitted it just "made assumptions of plagiarism and stated them as facts" ??????

"YouTube sees this feature as the first step toward making it easier for creators who want companies to train AI on their videos, and perhaps be compensated for that training." Why would people opt in on the basis that they'd perhaps, maybe, be compensated one day in the future?

A very small amount of people are like tidal waves. You can try to become one, or you can learn to ride along. Most people are like the beach. They just sit watching everyone else's wave, and it makes them wet when they crash.

Did the AI course stuff not go well? Looked like it was taking off! I tried to access the Practical Programmatic course the other day and noticed it was Playbooks branded. Now looks like it goes the other way around!

I've been binging 'Ghost Town Living' on YT; fascinating how the mining industry thrives massively for such short periods of time, and then...nothing. Everyone leaves. It reminds me of blogging...and tweeting about it

It just makes me happy to realise the business wasn't all for nothing Some writers went to work for top sites like Dexerto One creator came to work with me on my current project & people love the only content the 'site' still puts out It's not massively profitable but at least it's still running

I started a gaming site. It blew up, then crashed. From just me to a team of 30 and back down again...except for one hire I didn't even advertise for. I got a special feeling after receiving an application one day and took a chance. We didn't do video reviews...but then we did. And it worked.

So stuff still goes viral but more just a story rather than a visual?

Thanks Carl! As an outsider it seems like less scalable PR activities are more in vogue, and potentially more valuable too. But ya boy likes links

Luke Jordan @lrjordan.com · 26/11/2024
Are digital PR linkbuilding campaigns still a thing? As in, the idea of creating a viral asset, doing outreach and getting links? Or did everything change?

Thanks for the reply! Do you mean the disclaimer states they don't actually test? Fully justified penalties in that case. Or do you mean something else, e.g. they're writing up based on other in-house testing? Latter seems unlikely but could be wrong!

Luke Jordan @lrjordan.com · 24/11/2024
Are these writers actually testing the products they're writing about? Provably? Been looking for examples of penalised sites that absolutely didn't deserve it. Thanks!

Taking traffic away from big sites that didn't deserve it is great but it's gotta be redistributed to the sites that do deserve it. Currently, Google are using various updates to continually reduce traffic to EVERYONE - other than their own AI results that they stole from the sites they now punish.

When you treat SEO 100% as a bonus it completely reshapes how you approach content Minimal keyword research. No "time on page" boosting. Just value for your audience But it can still rank (in very competitive niches)

Regardless of whether timing was harsh, these were the world's biggest sites pumping the internet full of low quality reviews of products they'd never seen in their life; cashing in at the expense of millions of readers Yet to see sites that didn't deserve it (but please send if you have examples!)
