Ultimately, they are still just adding stats to a sheet, but they do ground your thinking in making your character a living, breathing (mostly) being as opposed to just a stat block, particularly because they are unafraid to take the time to give it narrative flare! Locking in making the player...

An interesting thing that *does* come to my mind though, is how character creation is presented to players and how that can change how players see their character. Games like Pendragon, Traveller, Stars Without Number, have deep systems for creating a family, a childhood, work before adventure...

being suggested: being a systems-lite system isn't automatically going to solve the problem, like Justin says, it is about balance. My mind goes to Pendragon's traits and passions, or most PbtA games' inevitable retirement mechanic. Things that give real narrative stakes to numbers going up...

The easiest way to get the immediate dopamine hit, which I think has come about being in video games as opposed to TTRPGs and the specific people I had mentoring me in that space. I am trying to adjust myself out of it a little bit again now. But for what it's worth, and I don't think this is...

I held out for a long, long time, particularly when living in London, hoping to get by on public transport, but the last half-year or so has proven that the transit networks just aren't where I need them to be yet to do without personal transport... So... NOW I AM UNSTOPPABLE!

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

Very proud of myself today. 5500 words written, which is more than I've been able to string together for a couple of months, of a quality I'm really happy with for a first draft. Basically crafting an argument between the protagonist and her boyfriend. A little exhausting but a lot of fun 😅

You might think that being a professional writer makes written applications easier; maybe it does for some but it never once has for me; it's just a completely different 'artform'. But seeing as it's so rare to get feedback I can actually use to make the next shot better, I thought I'd share! ☺️

Apparently it is quite common for candidates to get too caught up on the Situation and Task and not go into enough detail on the Action, Result or Reflection, which is exactly where I went wrong. Action is not just what you did but why; like a maths test, show your reasoning. 3/-

I have always struggled with the format and low word counts because it always feels like it cuts away at my personality, so it didn't come as a massive surprise to be told that I was too wordy in some places and not detailed enough in others, but the exact feedback was telling. 2/-

I went for a new job role at my current place of work and didn't get past the first stage, but for once I got some pretty good feedback as to why. We're heavily encouraged to use STAR(R) answers for our written applications and only get 250 words for each section: this is my nightmare scenario! 1/-

Saw this statistic before I logged off work today: I think I may have already been aware of it but now it is living rent-free in my head: In 2015, the UK was #1 in Europe for LGBTQ+ support. In 2026 we are #22. A drop of 44%. I don't know where the numbers were taken from. How deeply depressing...
