It feels like bragging but this week I took long-distance trains again and once again, everything went smoothly. (Well, except that my original train was canceled but at least I knew that early enough. And I'm not going to mention the groups of retirees who celebrated their train trip with sparkling wine and liver sausage...

I made the mistake of having a big breakfast before sitting down to write and now I'm lethargic and rather want to take a nap. I traveled for work this week, which was all nice and dandy. The trains were on time and pretty empty, taking them during the less busy hours makes quite a...

Same week as every week, except yesterday I went to a small comedy show with my brother-in-law. It was okay, I guess - four comedians. One was good, one was very obviously at the very beginning of their career, one was okay-ish and one was an ex-cop who joked about bullying teenagers when he was...

There are many, many reasons to be angry at the AI crowd. One of mine is that they took the term vibe coding - how else am I going to describe the flow state when I have some repetitive music running in the background and am just breezing through some programming work? (And don't get...

Oh boy, running your own website(s) is tedious, isn't it? I'm in the middle of moving stuff away from Digital Ocean. (We all know why.) I wanted to do that anyway but well, procrastination.Object storage is especially annoying - of course there's rclone and it does what it should but it doesn't clone the visibility...

After last week's sleep deprivation I decided that this week I'll force myself to go to bed at nine every day. That didn't exactly mean that I'd sleep at nine but I magically managed to read more than usual and still sleep earlier than usual. Who knew.Alas, more sleep just means I'm less sleepy but...

Oh no. I should not have seen those "day live-blogs in timeline format" posts today. Like this and this. Very nerd-snipy, now I want to play with a format like that as well.(Old-school readers might know that I used to have something like that a few years back, showing the aggregated posts from my blog,...

I had plans for this weekend and I had to do some planning for future endeavours to do, instead I am paying the price for all the revenge bedtime procrastination I did this week. So knackered, good god. The one thing I managed to do is to switch my "photo blog to fediverse" thing from...

A short (work) week - I had the Monday off and went to Basel for some shopping and lunch with my sister. Of course the Tuesday was very much a condensed Monday then, so that was great. In other news - we finally got some rain, but that seemed to have been a short-lived blessing....

I like to geo-tag all my "stuff" so of course I also like to geo-tag my blog posts. I just wrote a tiny little plugin to do that. I looked at a whole bunch of plugins, I used Simple Location for a while until I realized that all of them are doing way too much....

WebSub is one of those underrated technologies that quietly work in the background of the web and that I appreciate quite a bit. It's not super hard to implement and at least in my experience it is super fast as well. (I think) WordPress has it by default, many of the feed-reading services use it...

Just like everyone else in this part of the world, I wanted to see the eclipse last Wednesday. Given that my living room windows face directly toward the sun around the time of the eclipse, I decided to just do that from home. Alas there is a tree in the way and all I saw...

This morning it was Go by The Chemical Brothers.

I started something on an impulse. I realised after a while that while it might be a great idea, it would be an even better idea as part of something already existing. Now I'm ignoring it altogether and for some reason started Captain of Industry again, which is really, really bad. It's crack. I should...

Another rather calm and warm week.Workwise I'm currently working on a big task with a technology I haven't used before, so this takes up a lot of my mental energy and struggling with all the weird little mistakes one does when not fully knowing something is surprisingly draining. I'm learning a lot, though, which is...

After the shenanigans of the last two weeks, this one is clearly one to recharge my social battery. I'm not sure if this is the reason but I also slept particularly bad. At least during the night. Daytime naps were just perfect but usually too short. And I think to celebrate those, I'll take another...

Weird technology mistakes: on Saturday I just wanted to add one of our family gatherings to my calendar on the iPhone. I typed "Family gathering" and the phone helpfully used all the information from an old family gathering, (2019!) copied them into the new entry - and then sent out an invitation everyone who was...

It was the best of times, it was the wurst of times. The first two days of the week were being spend in Munich, a friend of mine had a stopover there and we planned to have dinner for a few months already. The time I wasn't eating wurst with her, her friend and her...

A birthday, a funeral and a train journey that actually went just fine filled the week that was over faster than I could look around. Just like I mentioned last week, the current weather has a bigger effect on me than the one during the heat wave so everything has been a bit of a...

This morning it was I Can't Stop Me by Twice and it is 100% because Instagram keeps showing me reels of that girl who screams along with it

The "Years Ago Today" plugin on my blog just reminded me that I linked to GTA V GeoGuesser four years ago. I clicked just for a laugh, oh, maybe I still remember, haha - and I wasn't really prepared what a deep feeling of nostalgia and (I guess?) homesickness this would trigger.A long time ago...
