On this day 121 years ago, the Founding Convention of the IWW began. Among the founding Wobblies who addressed the convention, Lucy Parsons gave a speech that presciently advocated for a new kind of strike...
My conception of the strike of the future is not to strike and go out and starve, but to strike and remain in and take possession of the necessary property of production...
Lucy Parsons at the Founding Convention of the Industrial Workers of the World, June 27th, 1905

Anthropologist, Occupy activist, and fellow worker David Graeber was born on this day in 1961. #DirectActionGetsTheGoods #OTD
Direct action is the insistence, when faced with structures of unjust authority, on acting as if one is already free. From David Graeber, Direct Action: An Ethnography. The background is Graeber speaking from a position seated on the floor at the Maagdenhuis occupation at the University of Amsterdam in 2015.

I'm seeing some chitchat about saintly Costco being "rewarded" with a strike from the Teamsters and how they deserve to have their picket line crossed because they endorsed Trump and he's probably pulling the strings. Hey Big Bill Haywood called and said u need to stop
Big Bill Haywood is a big white man, a former miner. He is heavy faced, dressed in an overcoat, vest, tie with tie tack and white shirt, and a hat. He is glaring at us with his one good eye; his blind eye is dark and the whole effect is that he's fuckin pissed.
