Many are saying this. You’re hearing “I read Metal From Heaven by August Clarke on Stella’s recommendation and I will never be the same” more and more

It's just so good! I cried after The Scene with Withers, it was just such a catharsis, particularly because I had gone into that scenario prepared for that to be the end of things

I couldn't do it, all I ever managed was the Dark Urge, redeemed, where the [redacted] that [redacted] did to her allowed her to see that other things were possible, and to make better choices. Which is really the opposite of an evil run, but has the virtue of being narratively compelling

Lily Wachowski is so cool. Most celebrities use high profile interviews to be like "it was such a pleasure to work with so and so on such and such" and she's like "JK Rowling funds trans genocide and Elon Musk is a fascist misrepresenting my work to destroy the planet" Let her make more movies.

Well, probably 1 of 2 things: the paper made contact with a heating element, or some oil used has a low enough flash point that it vaporized and ignited. It sort of has to be one of those two things, as parchment paper usually only ignites over ~230 C

Le Guin on the idea that there is a secret to getting good at writing.
I will dispose of the first myth as quickly as possible. The “secret” is skill. If you haven’t learned how to do something, the people who have may seem to be magicians, possessors of mysterious secrets. In a fairly simple art, such as making pie crust, there are certain teachable “secrets” of method that lead almost infallibly to good results; but in any complex art, such as housekeeping, piano-playing, clothes-making, or story-writing, there are so many techniques, skills, choices of method, so many variables, so many “secrets,” some teachable and some not, that you can learn them only by methodical, repeated, long-continued practice — in other words, by work.

Thinking of these words from Tennessee Williams today.
“The world is violent and mercurial--it will have its way with you. We are saved only by love--love for each other and the love that we pour into the art we feel compelled to share: being a parent; being a writer; being a painter; being a friend. We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love.”

I write, speak and think with a lot of semi-colons; the semi-to-barely-related follow-on clause is a direct reflection of the way my brain steps through topics. It doesn't always make for the best dialogue, though.

You got this!!! Remember, at the end of the day, this is a themed party with people you care about to celebrate your relationship; people will remember the company and food way more than the decorations.

You need to protect yourself from going too deep on details, because there's an infinite amount of worrying you can do over a finite number of decisions, and it'll just make the whole process suck.

Elle @loquaciousloris.bsky.social · 15/04/2026
I would advocate for the first, then, because the second has an obvious problem! Having planned my own wedding, I can promise you that the aesthetic details matter less than people think they do, and that the best course of action is usually to find something you like that doesn't need adjusting

Elle @loquaciousloris.bsky.social · 15/04/2026
I think you can reduce this to the first or third; 2 and 4 are both conceptually similar to 1, but not as compelling. The asymmetry of the 4th is interesting, but it doesn't commit hard enough to it, and the back of the second is lovely, but the belt of embroidery feels too simple.

God, she sure is. In that case, I'll emphasize Metal From Heaven, which I similarly could not be normal about for about a month after I read it, and add The Raven Tower, by Ann Leckie, for the execution of the second person narration alone.

I'll add that I particularly loved the prose of the Locked Tomb; the way Tamsyn Muir can alternate between flippancy and some of the most heart-wrenching phrases I've seen on paper is remarkable.

In between there are white periwinkles as a symbol for fond memories

There is a policy option for this! Instead of having a supreme court with specifically appointed members, we could instead empanel a Supreme Court from judges on the court of appeals. This has the added bonus of making it harder to tailor cases to judges, and allows more than one panel at once.
