The Alexandria of today is so, so different from the one Sphene grew up in.

Well, actually, it isn't Alexandria anymore, is it? It's Solution Nine.

Sphene has to remind herself that as she stares into the brown, milky drink known as bubble tea. It's quite peculiar; a cold—instead of hot, like she's used to—, milky brew with chewy black balls at the bottom called 'tapioca'. She heard from the other residents that it was popular for a short amount of time, and Sphene can see why. It's quite easy to travel around with, as opposed to a regular cup of tea.

Freya lets out a huff as the blade is released from the monster, which falls to the ground with one last groan. Her hands grip tight on the hilt, she can feel it sink deep and engrave itself into her palm. When she released one hand to look at it, she can see it's red and sore, gaining cuts and blisters just from the grip alone. She notes that it's a similar feeling from back then, too. It lets her know that she is alive, that she is not a walking corpse that people believe her to be when she taps into the power of a Dark Knight.

But sometimes, she still feels like she's dead.

Especially when she comes back from a particularly hard fight, back to the Scions where she is covered in blood, and sweat, and sometimes her own tears. She knows their looks well; a mix of pity and fear: look at her, still just a child. It's the same look those adults gave her back then, the ones that betted on her. The ones who watched in horror, but did nothing else. These looks make her feel like she's a dead girl walking.

I've decided to start writing dark twisted erotic fantasy. From these excerpts you can see its the kind that's maybe even a little too dark and twisted for some, but I guess you could say that, like my protagonist, I'm not like other girls.

"I feel nothing being with you!" I say in defiance.

"Your body says otherwise," he says. As an example, he points to my hands, which I hadn't realized were both giving a thumbs up.

"Traitorous thumbs," I say under my breath. "Crap. Fuck. This sucks."

I shove my hands behind my back so he can't see them, but then he starts doing this evil sex move where he thrusts even faster and they start applauding so he can still tell I actually like it anyway.

"Perhaps a night in the gaol will make you less defiant." He snarls with his sex mouth. At first I thought he had said "jail" because that was how he pronounced it, because that is how that word is pronounced and also it has the same meaning, but I didn't know that because I had only seen that version of the word written down. Or maybe I had heard it spoken but every time I did I had assumed they were saying "jail." There's honestly no way for me to know.

"Its pronounced GAOL!" I shout back, nowhere close to the correct pronounciation. Like, not even remotely on the map with that one.

The Prince aimed his bonewand at us. Not the Bonewand that turns people into bones, but the bonewand, which is unrelated and uncapitalized. The one that shoots bones.

Sharp bones pierced poor Wingwind, shredding his semitendinosus, his brachiocephalicus, his sternomandibularis, and his registertocontinueusingfreehorseanatomydotcom. As we fell from the sky, the valiant pegasus turned his head and spoke to me.

"My lady, you must live. No matter what happens, no matter what degredations you face, you must live. Even if the degredations get kind of sexy, you must live so that you can find love, feministly. Even if its with a guy who at least kind of sucks, you must do this."

"Holy shit, you can talk?" I said.

"Do you ever worry that the confines of our imagination have made actual intimacy impossible? That we merely seek to replicate the same failed dynamics we grew up surrounded by, in roles we slide into out of entropy rather than any real connection we feel to them, only now with elaborate pageantry we've constructed in order to feel empowered instead of debased?" He asks me, making me a bit uncomfortable since he's now talking about feelings like some kind of gay or one of those girls that I'm different from.

"Wuh-oh! Sounds like someone's got a case of the grumpies that can only be solved by doing some kind of crazy sex kink! Like, maybe a new kind of missionary, but one where I'm on my tummy." I retort.

For a moment I think he's about to cry but then at the last second he sternly nods and begins taking off his pants.

The Landsguard relaxes a bit, letting out a sigh. "I regret it. A shift is a shift, though."

Estel hums for a moment, tapping her finger on her chin. "I hope they're letting you have frequent water breaks then. Have you heard of sweet maple mate? It's used by the Pelupelu to stave off deep fatigue. If you're able to get some, I'd highly suggest it."

He looks at her incredulously, as if expecting some twist or catch. Estel, on the other hand, stands up straight with a smile as she waits for his answer.

Her breathing is raggered and her heart thumps against her chest. Green spiralled eyes widen with each second as Leih looks at her orphanage for the first time in four years. Or, rather, what's left of it.

Being a poor building in Uldah, it was never refined or perfect in the first place, but it felt like home. Now, it's souless, run-down and beaten, with wooden planks covering the windows and a door that is half off its hinges.

Many thoughts run through Leih's mind. Was the gil she was sending each month not enough? Could they not afford to run the orphanage anymore? Or did bandits raid it, forcing them out?

And the children… are they—

"I really hope you don't," Maral mutters. "And don't dodge the question, please. I know she can be harsh sometimes, but she means well."

Estel glances back at Maral, the strands of her blue ponytail falling off her back, as if running away from the conversation themselves. "So she can call me an abomination, but it's bad when I call her a hag?"

Her dreams, her doubts, the people she'd met today; the challenge she'd taken upon herself to surmount; what she might say to Tobli. She'd experienced more excitement in a day than she had in many a whole year. It left her giddy and trembling, filled to the brim with energy.

A part of that excitement thumped together with the beating in her chest, small and nervous, yet surefooted, like a newborn cria.

Amaris and her father, Mikos, dig through chests in search of spare cloaks for her journey into Coerthas. As they do, Cid and Alphinaud
— but mostly Alphinaud — chat at length with her mother, Marga.

As bright of personalities as the Stiel family is, the house this full was a rarity. Something special that she knew her mother always enjoyed.

"Your mother seems to enjoy their company. You have some unique friends, Goobbue." Mikos chuckles. "Makes me almost wish I could come with you on this journey."

Amaris' eyes flicker from Cid and Alphinaud to her father.

"It would be too dangerous." She says quickly, a small frown pulling at her lips.

"I'm your father, nothing is too dangerous when it comes to you." He rebuttals.

"Then why aren't you insisting on coming with us?" Amaris asks, genuine. Mikos looks off into the distance, his sight going past her travel companions.

"You're growing up. Into something I never imagined for you, but growing up nonetheless." He says, his gaze still far. "T'll be here to catch you if you fall, but what good would I be if I hung on your coattails?"

Amaris' face softens and her brow furrows. "Do you promise?"

"I promise. Me and your Mother, both." He flashes an almost identical look before pulling into a teasing grin. "Though if you don't start sending updates — true ones — to us on your whereabouts, we may have an issue.”

Amaris' eyes widen for a moment in embarrassment before nudging him with her shoulder. "I'll write more, I swear!" She exclaims before settling again. "Thank you, Dad...I love you."

"I love you too." He replies, a warm smile on his face. "Now let's get your friends set up with something to keep them warm on this next venture, eh?"

"Okay!"

The isle they stand on is not completely overcome with frost. Life still bleeds from between the ice, which is more than what could be said about the surface, according to Visna. A part of Freya is curious so see what it's like— to have a world be completely overcome by snow—, but she feels she won't get to see for herself any time soon.

Freya stands between Alphinaud and Visna as they look over the edge. Visna, ever the diligent sky-farer, is constantly on the lookout for more thralls, while Alphinaud is shivering and rubbing his hands, trying to stave off the cold. Unlike Garlemald, he's unequipped for the weather, but she thought he might've gotten used to it through Ishgard. Maybe Tural has taken him off guard.
