i struggle with a brain that wants to stiffly copy whatever reference i'm using and one thing i've found helpful:
1. draw big blocky shapes over the reference
2. turn off ref and redraw big blocky shapes
3. draw in figure with big blocky shapes overlaid
Traducir post

photo of model posing as an elegant elf woman that ive blocked out with a chunky red brush

in a separate window ive redrawn the red blocks, then have drawn details over the red blocks, using the photo+red transparency as reference

Creativity is like a houseplant, not an endless well. You need to seek out sunlight, water, and nutrients in art, shows, music, experiences, and more to tend to it. And just like plants it has its dormant and active periods and you may not seem improvement for some time.

Hello, my name is Kate, I'm a digital artist with love for horror, mythology and nature 🌿

The illustration of the woman, siting on the ice in the middle of the snowy forest. She has bunny ears.

The illustration of the creature, sitting in the small patch of meadow in the middle of dark woods.
Creature has eldritch tentacles coming from it's eye sockets and their six blue glowing eyes on them.

The illustration of the woman, siting in the dark with coral and tentacles emerging from her back.

The illustration of the sand watch, figure of woman inside the glass. Watch surrounded by two hands - one old and one young.
Also, there a lot of mushrooms on the bottom and top of the illustration.

Just before things started to nosedive on twitter, I posted a thread that walked through the massive body of work I did over the last three years (on an inspiring team) on the cancelled Project Dragon aka Everhaven. For posterity I reckon I'll repost that thread, piece by piece, over here ✨

colorful key splash art for Project Dragon- a group of adventurers (a musical ocarina golem, a rider mounted on a wyvern, a dimunutive cat person and a pet pinoceros) crest a hill over a sun-drenched landscape with billowing clouds and distant ruins. In the sky above, a character composed of constellations spreads their 6 arms and welcomes them to the world.

QRP with your sketch vs final artwork! #arttrain Cover art for The Alchemy of Sorrow

Several rough sketches depicting different scenes, each with a woman set in a desolated environment (dilapidated houses, broken windows, shattered mosaic floor, etc), finding new hope, represented by a glowing spirit, in the shape of flowers, butterflies, birds.

A dark skinned woman stands in front of a broken blue stained glass window. She’s crying but has a somewhat serene expression. The woman’s skin is crisscrossed by cracks repaired with gold. She’s surrounded by wilted flowers. In her hands are two lively swallows made of light. The light coming from the birds swirls around the image, giving life to the previously wilted flowers.
On the back side of the book cover we see two more birds dancing around a broken vase, they too are reviving flowers with their light.
