I am low on self esteem this week. Brain spiralling. Got hit by a car today (don’t worry, it was slow and I’m fine). Inking 14 pages of a pitch which I’ve already made 20 pages for.

I wish I was friends with Gandalf

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Oh hey, it’s also time for the bi(or tri?) annual re-watching of TLOR extended editions. Who needs friends when you have this?

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Drawing comics is a long, slow process, and often, by the time a page is done, I look back and wish I was a better artist. But it’s the process that soothes me.

I was recently comissioned to make a couple of paintings, by a really kind and thoughtful person in the US. It was such a pleasure working with them. I hope you like them too. @andrewsmcmeelkids.bsky.social

I'm inking two pieces of art, jumping between the two. These are totally optional, not specifically requested, but may be useful, pieces of art. Because that's who I am.

How can I be expected to work when I need to cut my fingernails? huh?

050

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

The internet makes me anxious.

050

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 26/08/2026

I am so easily distracted, it's terrible. Open a tab to do a specific task, instantly forget what that was, click around, find something else to fill my brain for a few minutes, go off on a tangent for an hour, remember what I was doing, loop back around and repeat.

060

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Some days I have this problem where I feel like I can't get anything meaningful done until I've completed something arbitrary, for example, today I want to shave my beard. It's bothering me. I must go immediately and take of this above all else.

040

Joe Latham @lookhappy.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

Eyes are burning, so very tired. Need snacks. And tea. Then it's time to pick up the notebook and start writing. How are you doing today?

Drunk people on my doorstep kept me up half the night. Now I’m just waiting for morning

Very limited work time this summer. My boy is on Summer Break from school. I'm working on pitches, stories, ideas, covers, art. I feel happy with the work, but totally overwhelmed by everything else.

Gosh, it all seems very bleak at the moment, doesn't it?! Aren't we due some kind of tiny morsel of hope at some point? Something to take away the relentless feeling of doom? Please?

For context: We did once attempt to break the world record for preforming a music show in all of the 50 US states in the fastest amount of time, and then I illustrated a 300 page graphic novel about it in less than a year. So yeah, I wouldn’t say “smart choices” are our norm.

allow me to surf on odyssey hype to repost an old piece from 2013 Penelope, Queen of Ithaca - 30x40cm ink on claybord

a black and white scratchboard illustration depicting Penelope, queen of Ithaca waiting for Odysseus. She is standing at the edge of a small stone platform, the sea right underneath, like by a ray of light, wrapped in black robes. Behind her, stairs climb back up the hill behind tall pine trees. In the distance, a square palace sits on the top of the hill, with light coming from the windows.

Spread from FIVE WISHES of Charlie and the Giver and Taker of Wishes. They appear differently to everyone: sometimes corporeal, sometimes not. Sometimes human, sometimes animal, vegetable, or mineral. It changes every time for it is nowhere and everywhere, nothing and everything at once changing based upon every individual's personal needs, expecations, and experience.

I often complain to my MP, my Councillor, and my Mayor. They all reply but none of them care, not really. A rule for thee and not for me. Oh well, we're all cooking anyway, and not in a good way.

Apparently Playstation are ending production of physical discs in 2028. This is such a fail. Anti-consumer greed. There will be backlash, and a rise in every alternative, including piracy. Respect your customers or you will lose them. Just my two cents

We’re getting harassed by a neighbour, it’s one of the most horrible experiences I think I’ve ever had. We’re scared to go out, scared to use our garden, scared to answer the door. Today we were shaking and crying. It’s ruining our lives

over the past few years I've tried to upgrade bits of my work setup, only to realize none of it was actually better, just different, and in some ways, worse. So i'm rolling things back a bit. I guess we need to be open to change, but also recognize what works well for us.
