I think it is very unclear that one directly follows from the other; seems totally plausible an AI could be either without being both (I do not think LLMs are conscious in any way)

That just because you're using two very different definitions of AGI. Most capabilities people are using something close to Bostrom's def, which is something like "as good or better than humans in all relevant domains", not "a conscious, sentient being"

Yeah, it does often seem like the async loading is slower. That I can't comment on effectively: could be smaller VMs (for cost reduction), or more API calls, or the continued march of putting as much data as possible on the server (this last is my totally unsubstantiated guess)
