It’s just a coincidence I’m doing a self-guided walking tour of Pullman during #WeekWithoutDriving but it’s appropriate! The historic neighborhood is so walkable that one neighbor told me kids come from the surrounding neighborhoods to trick or treat in Pullman - the ultimate walkscore.

Dumped my stuff at a downtown hotel and now I’m already aboard Metra, Chicago’s regional rail, going to the Pullman National Historic Park. I am sad to be missing the cafe car pilot Metra is running. Amenities like that help distinguish transit from driving. #WeekWithoutDriving metra.com/CafeCar

I never seem to be at home for a whole #WeekWithoutDriving so every year I post pictures of other transit systems. I think it makes me a better board member that I’ve used a lot of types of systems all over the world, and I’m looking forward to learning more about Chicago over the next few days.

PSA for #WeekWithoutDriving: let’s say you just want to dip your toe into bike sharing, and you don’t want another account or app to deal with. @bikeshare.bsky.social bikes can be checked out via the Lyft app, and bike share bikes are MUCH cheaper than the free range micro mobility providers!

I’m at Bill Frey’s book launch event @brookings.edu. “Diversity Explosion” is a must read! Fascinating immigration scenario analysis showing that America is going to become more diverse by 2040 no matter what. This is a cultural shift already underway and not a policy choice.

This is a 95% right piece - overlook the hyperbole of the topline assertion that there are football games "every Sunday." This is well worth reading. I loved the thinking on expanded bus priority, biking, and walking. This is a positive vision for life in this city and region that sparks joy.

The revenue comp here doesn’t account for sales or payroll taxes generated by streeteries and so it’s silly. That said it’s true that most streeteries weren’t ADA complaint or busy and had no future. The real truth is somewhere in the middle, written on a napkin and allowed within 5 feet of a tree.

As someone who does YouTube, most candidates described as "authentic" are just… good on camera. And if that's what you want, that's fair! But you need to know that looking "natural" on camera is hella work! That's not "authentic" you're seeing, that's a high degree of media savvy. And budget.

The problem with an OK Ave metro station is not that it’s “too expensive.” It is, but it also doesn’t make sense! (1/4) Because the existing track is curved, steep, & elevated, a big new track segment would be needed, which would involve acquiring land - land that the city wants developed.
