Yes somehow their representation of women got worse over time. Like the industry generally which saw itself as non-sexist. At least they own it now.

HEY JENNA! I read Wired while breastfeeding! Agree, it looked better than it read a lot of times. Sherry Turkle is on one of the early covers, though, which was hugely inspiring! So sad that seeing any woman, even one I don't agree with, was cause to celebrate. Standards were so low then.

Truly worth reading. Borsook was, to me, like Ellen Ullman a rare and inspiring writer in the 90’s, a tech insider who was also a woman. Feminist or not, simply being that in the Valley was so unusual then. And taken for granted that it was rare, and would disappear.

Essential reading from @shobitap.org in @science.org: the concept of "sacrifice zones" described communities near industrial or military sites. "Sacrifice subjects" names who bears the risks of new technologies. People-first regulation, she argues, starts with that question.

This is very good. It could also sub “academic” for “writer.” I’m against urging our absolute best students to “go to grad school” but sadly it is usually what happens. I never say that now.
