I missed this detail from yesterday: Todd Blanche was sworn in as attorney general by Emil Bove, the federal judge who two years ago was in the trenches with Blanche as a fellow Trump personal defense attorney.
Screenshot of a tweet dated 10 August 2026 from Gregg Nunziata, reading: "Choosing Bove to swear in Blanche is a deliberate middle finger to all of us who are worried that the Department has become a tool of the president's wrath rather than a servant of justice. They don't want to prove us wrong by being better than we think they are; they are who we think they are." https://x.com/greggnunziata/status/2086926777654636943Screenshot of a White House official photo by Margo Martin showing Todd Blanche being sworn in as attorney general in the Oval Office on 10 August 2026. Just canceled my DashPass and sent this email to DoorDash. I encourage you to do the same if you support D.C. home rule. press@doordash.com and ir@doordash.com
Hello,

I’m writing to let you know that I just canceled my DashPass because of DoorDash’s disgraceful campaign against D.C. home rule.

DoorDash is urging Congress to nullify a new D.C. law imposing a 20 percent tax on food-delivery services—not merely by overturning that law, but by prohibiting the District from enacting any new tax without prior congressional approval. That is an extraordinarily sweeping assault on D.C.’s right to govern itself and an odious insult to the District’s residents.

I am especially disgusted by DoorDash’s public claim that it is somehow defending D.C. residents while actively seeking to strip us of our right to govern ourselves through our own democratically elected lawmakers. Please do not pretend that disenfranchising District residents is an act undertaken on our behalf.

I intend to publicize DoorDash’s attack on home rule as widely as possible and urge everyone I know to boycott the company.

Shame on you.

Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.
Matt Walsh tweets: Nolan's obsessions with the non-linear storytelling gimmick really hurts this film. It jumps around so much, and spends so little time on any one particular moment or scene, that you never really feel like Odysseus is on an epic journey spanning many years. When he makes it home, you never feel like he's been gone for 20 years. The film does not capture the grandeur and scope of the original epic. That's why it feels rushed and too long simultaneously. The movie comes off like a rough draft. Nolan was searching for the actual story but never quite found it.

As we await whatever fresh hell Trump's speech tonight will unleash, it’s important to step back and recognize the broader strategy characterizing much of Trump 2.0. I suspect the same strategy will be deployed in the run-up to the 2026 elections. The template is 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁.

Here's a slightly longer version, which I think captures much of what has happened over the past 1.5 years. And I expect this is the playbook for the 2026 elections: Begin by announcing extreme "election integrity" measures and ultimately retreat to a position that seems moderate only by comparison.
