I am so angry it morphed to panic & had to take an Ativan. Colleague constantly talks over me, jumping to say what I was about to say. 4 times in 10 minutes today. I hit my wall. They're my gender it's not a sexist IT thing. It's persistent. And consistent. Nobody else in the room is getting this.

Utterly unsurprising to metadata librarians who have documented the propagation of errors and their classes for decades. This is why orgs with central stores of metadata have regular processes to catch, correct, merge dupes etc. Too bad Amazon doesn’t.

There are 76 LCSH with "artificial intelligence" in the Alma CZ. Do you understand how LONG that norm rule will be, especially if we include FAST headings in this mix? I am not waiting that long for dinner. Scratch staying late. I'll deal tomorrow.

Laura J. Smart @ljsmart.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Now they're coming for "artificial intelligence". I would not have predicted the slide into newspeak for everyday words would happen this quickly. How naive. Everybody, resume the LCSH blocking protocol. Guess what I'm staying late to do

Today I'm officially old enough to join a senior's fitness association. A tad depressing when I have 15 years left before I can afford a retirement in financial austerity. Let's not think about long term care eh? Otherwise? I appreciate having another ring on this tree. Beats the alternative.

I suppose technically it’s a post-print not a pre-print. thanks detail-oriented folks for a reminder. In my defence, it’s been 6 years since I was head of a library Research & Scholarly Communication dept. I’m on to thwarting censorship & new speak in controlled vocabulary + metadata sovereignty

Hi Nico,

Updated COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be available by the end of September, and flu shots by mid-October.  The updated vaccines will provide better protection against circulating variants.

Hi - Bibframe is simply another type of mark-up. Description & subject analysis remain the same. I am a renegade on this and RDA - full of why bother? In a drastically reduced staffing environment with systems doing translation on encoding, it's not a priority to train staff. I'll write a MAP.

You'll note that the industry's report doesn't say library e-book lending reduces revenue, just sales. Since licensing e-books costs libraries a bajillion dollars and publishers likely aren't actually suffering, and probably wouldn't suffer under the modest price controls of proposed legislation

Reading the MIT report on use of generative AI in teaching & learning plus my own orgs G&O in that area, I'm stuck by the need for a taxonomy like CRediT for disclosure statements. Not it. :-) No doubt it'll emerge if it hasn't already. No I haven't searched. This is idle thinking.

A reminder to Alma libraries - applying subfield $$9 no_linkage will block the nightly authority control task list job from updating a controlled heading. I'm tweaking the norm rule we use for Gulf of Mexico and Denali. Will share when I get it working (the escape characters always trip me up a bit)

The funny thing about Trump wanting to change Lake Ontario to Lake America is that I don't think American tech companies will capitulate this time. They gave him a freebie with the Gulf of America but he's so politically weak right now.

I love living in walking distance to our central park and all the summer weekend events. First gym & housework. Then all the fun. It’s a scorcher. Hat, h2o, sunscreen ftw
