I will not provide receipts to prove this but there is a buy nothing chat in NE in which neighbors have been passing around a particularly stinky piece of cheese for a week or so just because everyone is so curious to taste and smell the cheese. I fucking love it here.

THIS. Someone from a school that isn’t closing came to today’s event and said her kid isn’t impacted—she meant her kid’s pathway. But closed schools mean larger class sizes for her kid’s pathway as well as transportation costs and problems.

Also, my take on Waymo. I have been in several down in Austin, Texas. They are okay, but not in this climate. Our household also has a Tesla with full self-driving. We don’t use self-driving in the winter, and Tesla requires you to hold the steering wheel while in self-driving mode.

This choice will take jobs from existing cab/rideshare drivers and I am very concerned about winter driving and ice as a public danger. I cannot believe the mayor is framing this as “open for business.” People will be hurt—whether through a skidding car or by losing wages.

For those demoralized by the MPS plan to close schools, we can push back and win.

Organizing can change the choices on the table. In 2024, Seattle Public Schools faced a gap of nearly $100
million and proposed closing up to 21 schools. After months of pushback from families, the district dropped the plan and turned to the state for help.
The following spring, Washington's Legislature voted to remove its cap on special-education funding, adding $750 million over four years statewide.

Holy shit. Friend of a friend encountered a driver on Sabo Bridge today. Driver apparently seemed very confused and lost. Howwww did they get past the concrete barricades on both ends? (For non Mpls folks: this bridge is bike/ped only & paths up are narrow w/ bollards on both ends.)
