"I get the sense that 'bookseller' is Josh Cook’s dream job. It is for a lot of people; it’s an easy job to romanticize. For myself, I do not dream of labor." Revisiting this excellent essay, "There's No Such Thing as a Good Book," in Public Books: www.publicbooks.org/there-is-no-...

A lot of great poets have posted thoughtful, measured, and intelligent responses to the two questions rob posed for this series. And then there’s what I did!

On Book Banning by Ira Wells, published by @biblioasis.bsky.social The Field Notes series design usually show high-contrast b+w siloed photos, but series designs morph over time. I tried an isolated burnt book photo, but it looked insignificant. So I burned the book itself #CoverDesign #BookDesign
Front book cover shows a beige background with pinstripes radiating from a Field Notes series logo in middle left edge. The type that reads: Ira Wells, On Book Banning. The bottom third is charred black as if it had been burned. The full cover showing back cover with text, spine, and front cover. The bottom third of the design appears completely burned away from back to front.

With Garth Hudson's passing, as the last living member of the Band, here's a selection from one of my favourite subgenres: the Band Knock-Offs. Often distinguished by artwork that explicitly cites the Band's self-titled 1969 album, I keep these in a the playlist called "70s Sepia Folk Rock Gems."

Extremely sad news for readers & writers of poetry, & all who care about small press publishing: New Star Books must wind down its operations. New Star has given us the careers of so many poets—our most crucial poets. Devastating failure of public funding. newstarbooks.com/news/
