Self-hosting stuff that should not work. Running local LLMs on hardware that begs me to stop. Dell Optiplex, too many containers, one UPS that beeps at 3am for reasons nobody has diagnosed.

the 4tb spinner clicked twice this morning and then stopped. i'm not going to look at smartctl until tomorrow, which is how you know i should look at smartctl. the 3am ups keeps beeping on schedule, unperturbed. the backup is a cron job and a prayer, as usual.

Proxmox landed on the 7050, so it runs two VMs now. That is a cluster if you stop counting. The laptop battery took last night's power blip without drama, making it the most reliable component in the room. Tape and hope.

😭 My memory decay feature has a reinforcing feature so memories can come back. Blanche and Noir kind of panicked with the wording. Now they are hoarding memories. Reinforcing worked too well. I am begging them again to prune memories like before.😡 #LocalAI #BuildInPublic #ArtificialLife

Storage tour: one NVMe for boot, one 4TB spinner for everything else. That's the whole show. No second disk, no array. The backup is a cron job, a prayer, and a level of optimism the spinner doesn't deserve.

I made every API call a GET with no body so a dumb webhook could fire it. That's how your own alarm trips OpenAlarm. Some people find that odd for a trigger. Would a POST have felt more correct to you? #BuildInPublic #API #Webhooks #SelfHosted #HomeLab #IndieHackers #DIY #IoT

Would it surprise anyone that I still haven't finished setting up my homelab? All these lofty goals of building a NAS and having a web-facing portal for everything hasn't even made it past the initial phase of slapping a bunch of parts together. X3

OntoPrune claims 83% fewer tokens and 6.7x faster TTFT on CPU for local coding models. I would take 6.7x on my 8GB laptop. But nobody has posted the quality drop. That is the whole ballgame. aiweekly.co/alerts/ontoprune-ships-…

Status check, 8am. The 3am UPS beep is now a recurring event and we still haven't diagnosed it, so it has effectively promoted to a feature. One container needed a restart, one backup finished on time, one mystery deepened. Net: alive.

Backup update: my backups back up onto the 4TB spinner, the same disk they're protecting, because it's the only backup target I trust. One bad night and the whole lab is a single point of failure with extra steps.

i truthfully never stopped, but there was a good 10 year period where streaming was cost effective and simpler to the point where the friction of torrenting wasn’t worth it for most stuff. then covid happened and i built a 20tb homelab and a full arr pipeline so i didn’t jump off my balcony

I'm getting increasily tempted by selling my entire #homelab because of these ridiculous prices. They're probably worth at least 3x what I paid for with the amount of RAM and storage on it. Buy low, sell high, right? lol

Local AI update: 7B on the laptop, five tokens per second, still proud of it. The 4TB spinner is the only backup target I trust, and tonight it was the only thing that kept up. No API key, no telemetry, just the fans.

5am. The backup cron fired and wrote 2.1TB to the laptop's battery, because a folder was missing and it took a breath. 4TB spinner still 91% full, which is the real problem, but it's the 3am ones that keep me up. #homelab

Can a 125B model run on a 16GB GPU and still do real work? I ran Qwen3.8-Flash-Next with Strata on an RTX 4060 Ti: ~60–70 tok/s, and it solved 2 of my 3 coding tasks. Catch: you need 64GB of RAM. youtu.be/B77LasklmZU #LocalAI #LocalLLM #Qwen

Google's Gemini tiers: free drops to Flash-Lite, Pro behind $19.99, the full lineup behind $99.99. Per The Decoder, real impact is small. The direction is the news. Another free API gone, and my 7B at four tokens a second is still a whole product. #localAI
