I had a conversation recently with a reasonable person I like who gave far too much credence to the right's moral panic about kids in sports. Biological males competing as women is an issue. Then she said but there are not that many incidents of this. I asked why even cede the rhetorical territory?

And the spectrum continues from there. Some people pass 99 percent of the time. Some pass 90 percent. Some pass 60 percent. And ofc some cis people are mistakenly clocked as trans people. The more passing is policed, the more cis people get clocked mistakenly. It's a spectrum, and you're on it too.

See, because the reality is that whatever you believe is true about sex and gender, cis passing is definitely on a spectrum. For example, as I said, I pass well enough to go through a police patdown with no hint that I might not be a biological man - but I couldn't pass a strip search.

I used to use the example of people consumer facing genAI as therapists and got universal reprobation. Now people defend the use of these models for therapy. Look, if nonjudgmental awareness is therapeutic space, and I think it is, you cannot have that w/o awareness. An LLM has no awareness.

I think understanding the difference between being uncomfortable & being threatened would be a helpful thing for many humans. Once we create that awareness we can cultivate the reflex to center the needs of those who are threatened instead of throwing resources to those who are uncomfortable.

When Dems talk about the Ilhan Omar situation, they need to stop using language that implies that Omar might have done anything wrong. Trump is not "investigating" Omar.
