Nearly another hour had passed when Jayce found himself in yet another dead end. This time, though, when he turned around, he saw no trail to follow. He spun slowly as he searched, dread sinking in each second his search found nothing but walls of trees. He normally wouldn’t be so foolish as to walk right into a fairy’s den. The hours of dead ends, backtracking, and looping paths had eroded his prudence, and the stifling warm humidity of the forest certainly did not help. He had barely even been aware that he was nearing it, the signs in tightly clustered trees and gnarled, overlapping roots failing to raise any alarms through the frustration that had been building, only signaling to him that he was getting closer. When he finally noticed, it was too late. His hand flew to his sword but was batted away in it’s arc. He spun around as he pulled his dagger from a bicep sheath only to see nothing.
