A few more pleinairpril studies from 2022! I used the challenge that year as a way to spend quiet time with and connect to the new home I'd moved into. So a little less open air than the usual plein air.

I think I'd like to do plein airpril again this year - I did it a couple of times in 2021 and 2022 and it was a lovely way of connecting to my neighbourhood and home. It might be a nice way to get into gouache painting practice again.

For these ones I tried engraving around the lines and cutting away the bigger spaces - next time I would cut right to the edge of the plate to avoid having to use a stencil to mask it. I also used a cardboard jig I cut to exactly position the plates in the right place.

Just to share a bit of the process! I've only just begun to play around with using the laser cutter to cut my drawings into wood, so there's a lot of learning on the way.

Laser cut wood with engraving of two birds, a single layer of a multi block print. This is the middle layer..

All three laser cut wood plates together.

The first test print of the base orange layer. I was so happy that the really fine lines came out!

The first and second layer test printed. You can see the edge of the plate came out in the print here so I ended up cutting a stencil out of paper to mask it.

To help get myself out driving more I made myself a jar and put a token in whenever I did a drive, and when I got to a certain number I bought myself a treat. Then when we got our puppy I needed to drive so much more for him, and the regularity really helped my confidence. It gets there eventually!

Good on you! I know how scary it can be - in the last couple of years I had to build my driving confidence in a big city after not driving at all since I got my licence 5 years earlier. It felt overwhelming! But take it at your own pace and any time behind the wheel is good!

Printed the third and final layer and I'm so delighted by how this came out! It's a multiblock relief print with three colours.
