This beautiful verse story by Matt Goodfellow and illustrated by Joe Todd-Stanton (pub. Starboard, @hachettechildrens.bsky.social) is at times both tragic and warm, with a hopeful message of moving with rather than around grief. One of the most touching books we've read this year, well worth a look!

Ghost and Toast: Slice to Meet You, released today, is exactly what you'd expect from graphic novel author and illustrator Phil Corbett (creator of the Kitty Quest series). Ghost (the dead one) and Toast (the bread one) are going to be loads of fun for LKS2.

My love of #Malamander is legendary and I cannot articulate just how excited and grateful I am that I have a proof copy of @thomastaylor.bsky.social’s new title The Lantern and the Labyrinth to read. Out 08/04/27 for middle grade readers, my enormous thanks go to Thomas. @puffinbooksuk.bsky.social
Bright yellow hardback copy of the book held in my left hand in front of some bedding plants. The cover has no illustrations but carries the book’s title with Thomas Taylor above it and the Puffin Press logo beneath.

Since we got a proof copy, we didn’t get to enjoy Swain’s inside illustrations, though from what we’ve seen online they’re definitely up to the job! We love the cover however, featuring our main character who - we think - bears a striking resemblance to his creator, and his ominous alter-ego shadow.

Full of hostile villagers, a mansion full of secrets, the sinister Lady Deadlock, and a dodgy green potion, the book bursts with more jaw-dropping surprises and twists and turns than ‘a twisty turny thing’. Jekyll and Hyde leap sure-footed into the 21st century in this brilliantly imagined story!

Henrik Jekyll’s parents hate each other, but they both dote on their obnoxious son. So when Gabby (a small “lawyer”) is delivered to his home and hands Henrik the will of Dr Henry Jekyll, nothing will stop him from taking possession of the manor and Dr Jekyll’s research…with dangerous consequences.
