Perhaps we need to do more to point drivers toward safe and legal parking spaces.

Well basically there's nothing protecting you in a collision with a motor vehicle. Just like when you are walking. So really, how safe you feel depends on how people drive around you I'm afraid. A good reason to campaign for segregated cycling.

Politicians intervening in individual cases is bad politics. If the system doesn't work in a way they think it should they should try to change the system.

So this afternoon I had extra company on the school run. I wonder if there is a living to be made cycling small people around the city?

Schools encouraging children to nag their parents about smoking was very successful in the UK. Let's do cars next.

Well, you could charitably put this down to a draughting error. But in which case parliament should probably be rushing to put it right. But in their supremacy they aren't, so I guess that's now their will. (Not endorsing parliament's choice to be clear)

I recently took a neighbour's toddler to nursery by cargo bike ad a favour. They LOVED it. Apparently they now ask every morning if they can go in the bike instead of being driven. Life is just more fun by bike.

The number of councillors who do more than skim the papers before making decisions is very small. Same goes for casework, there are councillors who work very hard for residents, but more who do almost nothing.

I agree that it is a bit odd. If someone proposed doing it now for the first time people would definitely be concerned. The first time I did it I was amazed to find well over 95% of people were happy to share their details. Also - I guess most of politics is bothering people for partisan gain.

Or is that just proxy for the likelihood of having a local council controlled by your favoured party? (I don't think it is, but it could well be a significant factor)

I guess I'd rather more people were involved in democracy than fewer. Being uncivil just reduces the pool of people willing to be involved to the thickest skinned, the most extreme and the least normal. Weirdly, telling is often the only time activists from different parties talk to each other.

A bit much perhaps - they are just volunteers participating in the democratic process. You could just politely decline. This is what the Electoral Commission says about them.

My anacdata is more than a year old. It's a bit tricky to draw proper conclusions from the numbers as they are self selecting. Nearly all were represented and presumably had a good idea about whether it was worth chancing their arm. That's not to say I wasn't shocked though.

I once spent the day in magistrates observing back to back exceptional hardship hearings. All but one were granted. The chair got unto heated discussion with a colleague and set out her view that being in Norfolk, a rural county without good public transport, any ban would be exceptionally hard.

Make it safer for families to walk and cycle to schools please! Use school streets or LTNs, and encourage a bike bus to make it fun. Then you give children independence and an appreciation of cycling that will stay with them for life.

The LDRS system but for national outlets? Unfortunately the system seems open to abuse with some local papers using the money to employ journalists to churn out highly politicised content rather than reusable informative content.

More interesting to me is how many people are willing to admit they don't know the answers to technical questions. Reform voters are much more confident that they know the answer than other voters. (I'm happy to admit I have no idea)
