Lewis Gordon @lewisgordon.bsky.social · 11hThinking about this and also Deliveroo and Uber Eats makes me genuinely mad. Gouging customers under the guise of convenience and, in the case of those two companies, providing a clearly inferior service and quality of goods to what could be offered by in-house drivers. 100

Lewis Gordon @lewisgordon.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The last of the recent run is Jenny Hval's Paradise Rot. I love her music and this debut novel feels like a natural extension of it. Funny, gross, metaphysical. Avant-garde ideas relayed with pop accessibility. It kind of reads like a mouldy, mycological Backrooms. Very good! 020
Lewis Gordon @lewisgordon.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Next up was The Trees. Everett is such a lucid writer with the most enviable array of tools to make all of his many sage points pop on the page: pulpy genre fiction, counterfactual thought experiments, philosophy. Excellent, naturally. 100
Lewis Gordon @lewisgordon.bsky.social · 30/09/2026After that it was Hua Hsu's memoir Stay True. I started out disliking this book (I think because I saw too much of my annoying younger self in Hsu's aloof teen snob). But the book pulls off a kind of magic trick in its latter half. Very powerful, very smart, very tender. 100
Lewis Gordon @lewisgordon.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Back on this thread with Kushner's Mars Room. I felt an odd sense of dissonance reading this one: such pretty sentences for a prison subject matter that is so bleak. It reads less like a drama and more as a horror novel — time seems to become nightmarishly elastic, meaningless. Great, as per Kush. 110
