Glad that you are on a roll! May I pls offer a correction? 100% many parallels with Semmelweis and masking. However, the link not so direct between asylum in 1865 and handwashing advice since 1845. His friends locked him away because of his very erratic behaviour, drinking etc :(

Similar issues applied to COVID-19 in early 2020. Relatively high observed case fatality rates (confirmed fatalities/confirmed cases) relative to expectations suggest far more infections than confirmed cases. Which means the epidemic is far bigger than we know. www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/...

Seventeenth century was better than now in some ways. They did actually quarantine ships, build isolation hospitals and provide from communal funds support for the sick. Defoe's "Journal of the plague year" is a fascinating read.

A simple fix should work because they’re not DiSaBlEd, they’re just tired/burned out/hussling too hard/not eating right/whatever excuse they’re telling themselves (OR what minimizing healthcare providers say). The reality is that minimization in healthcare fuels anti-science grifting

Thanks! Yeah, fomites are definitely a vector. I spray from my alcohol spray bottle on door handles and kitchen surfaces etc. And if I have time use soap on them too as it works against norovirus.

I was feeling a bit insecure - how do I document the smell? Am I imagining it? Will the host be able to smell the same? What if the host lost a sense of smell due to a recent infection? The host came, said they couldn't smell anything obviously...

And as I approached the bed, I noticed pretty not-nice body smells coming from the mattress, pillows and the duvet. I remember the host saying "the previous guests made the sheets dirty so i bought you fresh new ones". So it all kinda clicked in... :o

The mask stays on for an hour or so depending on the aranet dropping. So let me tell you about my stay this week where the smell was present! I arrived late in the evening so by the time ti was clean enough to remove my mask, I was tired and looking forward to fall asleep.

This is my usual routine. I arrive in a mask and get greeted by the host who goes inside to show me everything usually. I don't stop them as they have probably just been inside prior to my arrival doing a final check.
