A little trip down a very influential memory lane.

My 9 Games

Othello (1986) - One of the hardest strategy games, but very easy to learn.
Super Metroid (1994) - Amazing soundtrack and of course iconic Samus had a major influence on me post game credits.
Castlevania Legends (1997) - Though it was for the Gameboy, and the story was removed from canon, Sonia made quite an impression on me at the time.
Aliens vs. Predator (1998) - The only game I can recall guaranteeing to send you a new pair of underwear because it was so scary.
Vagrant Story (2000) - My favorite RPG, a true masterpiece with an incredible soundtrack and atmosphere.
Fear Effect (2000) - A cinematic action/survival horror comedy, amazingly innovative.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (2002) - Breaking the 4th wall for fun, also very innovative storytelling.
Bloodrayne (2002) - Slicing up Nazis as a super hot vampire lady? Can't go wrong, especially when voiced by the inimitable Laura Bailey.
Silent Hill 3 (2003) - Another beautifully dark story, pushing the PS2 hardware to its limit and of course an excellent soundtrack and design.

Really enjoying the new (last?) Godflesh album. Lots of grit, and in places reminds me of dark ambient stuff I first heard off of the Cold Meat Industry label almost 25 years ago.

This is really interesting researh, though I'm very curious as to how the "used by over a billion people globally" is actually calculated. "Used" and "user" seem to lack clear definitions and I'm also not sure there's a distinction between a living person or automated prompters working behind VPNs.

Most people think about the canary in the coal mine thing as the canary reporting an environmental danger to miners through the fact of its death. Essentially, when the canaries die, the miners come to recognize the danger. That's not the whole story and understanding the whole story has value.

An interesting note in the "limitations" part of this study is that those assigned female at birth tend to start puberty earlier, while there seems to be slightly higher rates of discrimination for trans feminine people, but the rate of regret remains quite low (~3%). A good study overall, I think.

Fully agree, and when power is obtained, things like respect and obedience are purchased with favors (usually administrative) from those who want to be included in the impunity. Also, the more desperate for approval and insecure they are about their perceived powerlessness, the higher they can rise.

Possibly the worst thing, to me, about romance in games is how it tends to support the popular misconception of "trauma bonding". A surprising amount of people seem to believe that if you go through a tragedy with a stranger, you can become friends or even lovers, but reality isn't that simplistic.
