I remember holding my daughter as a newborn and deciding I was going to let go of some of the anger I had about my assault. My life would have gone very differently without it. It's never going to be fair that I went through it. But I also no longer want to be mad about my life as it exists *now*.

If I had just given up everything after my SA and accepted that my life was ruined, I would never have had my kids, I never would have traveled, there are hundreds of books I never would have read, music and films would have gone unheard and unwatched... My life is better because I did not give up.

I've been struck by the "SA ruins people's lives forever" rhetoric too, which strikes me as harmful and counterproductive for survivors. I will carry some of the effects of SA for the rest of my life, yes, but I also was able to get treatment that improved my quality of life significantly.

Vanilla is consistently a best seller because people usually choose vanilla when serving things like pie, cake, brownies, cookies, etc. with ice cream. It's a good base and compliments basically every other flavor. Most people choose vanilla for ice cream sundaes for the same reason.

They gave me a video appointment with a RN to replace it but an RN can't prescribe meds and the scheduler couldn't tell me if this would count for my annual physical to maintain my health care with the VA. "I don't know, I'm sorry, I just schedule appointments".

It's a pretty good gig for them, tbh. You can earn your GI Bill, become eligible for a VA home loan, get medical and dental insurance. Sets you up pretty well compared to a lot of gigs that are available to young musicians. You just gotta suffer through all the John Philip Sousa.

Also if I am being completely honest (and speaking from experience), a lot of trauma survivors, to include SA survivors, engage in behaviors post-trauma that feel good in the moment but aren't really conducive to healing long-term. "Just ask them" often gets you answers that hurt more than help.
