The ACToRS in AI Framework I've been using this framework over the past year as I've been increasingly brought into classrooms and conference rooms to help people make decisions about usage of the very hyped tools presented to us.

The ACToRS in AI Framework
About a year ago I was invited to give a lecture designed to spark critical thinking in graduate students when considering using generative AI and other tools that had started applying the "artificial intelligence" label in order to seem shiny and new. Being me, I wanted something to hang the presentation on and as I put together the topics that I wanted to address an acronym emerged.

Super useful framing of all the problems with these 'tools' and how they are foisted upon us I suppose nitroglycerin could also be a tool... Might well use this (with due credit) in next semester's data mgmt course

I was already close to being over the phrase “reimagine” (similar to how “synergy” became a bit of a joke years ago) but this did the trick.

Capitalization affects how people read hashtags or how people hear them on screen readers. Use #camelCase or #PascalCase in hashtags instead of lowercase. You could have #DoctorWhoRewatch ("Doctor Who Rewatch") or #doctorwhorewatch ("doctor whore watch.")

Not because GitHub is easy to replace (hint: it is not),but because it tests a bigger question: can AI make building products so fast and cheap that distribution becomes the only moat that really matters? 2/3

If I were the King of Universities (which, heaven forbid), I would place this finding at the exact centre of every single policy decision from teaching to research to estates to capital investment. At every level in every process, the question would be: are we as humane as education demands we be?
Screenshot from a Higher Education Policy Institute report. The key sentence is: "students are used to and want human teaching, human feedback, and human connection."

The change at NOMADS will not impact the NSF Unidata instances of the TDS (for example, thredds.ucar.edu or tds-nexrad.scigw.unidata.ucar.edu), the instance ran by NCAR GDEX, or any the other instances ran by the community, as they are all site specific and independent of each other.

The NOMADS OPeNDAP service was implemented by the GrADS-DODS Server, which is independent from the Hyrax server (from the OPeNDAP group) and the THREDDS Data Server (From NSF Unidata). NOMDADS discontinued use of the GrADS-DODS Server, but NCEI still runs an instance of the TDS.
