utility companies managed to get a sunset clause added for 2030. So all the interconnection fees and such come back then unless this gets adopted so widely that lawmakers feel pressured to pass this without the clause. So if you're in CA and adding balcony solar, the time to do it (3/?)

On one hand, safety measures are a good thing. But it means you can't use 3rd party cords like the "flat cables" they have in Germany that let you run the cord in through a sliding glass door or window. This is an issue if you don't have an outdoor outlet. The second issue is that (2/?)

I'm really happy this has passed. There are two aspects to the law as it ended up being written that make it a bit more challenging. First is that the panels must be UL 3700 certified. This means that they use a proprietary plug and cord and must be set up by an electrician. (1/?)

Well, here's the bad news. I wrote to the helpful people at Bright Saver to ask them about the flat cords. They agreed that these do exist in Germany. But the CA law requires UL 3700 certification which means a proprietary power cord and outlet, so you can't use 3rd party cords like the flat cables.

You don't necessarily need an outdoor outlet. You'll need to check with whoever makes the panel kit you're getting, but my understanding is that many of them have flat cables that will fit in the tracks of sliding doors and windows so you can plug it in indoors.

Denmark's coal-to-wind transition is one of the most dramatic energy transformations of the past three decades. In 1990, coal provided 90% of Danish electricity. Today it is under 3%. Wind now covers roughly 60% of electricity generation. The last coal plant is scheduled to close by 2028.
