Working for the National Trust on the South Downs, also part of Moor Barton Wilding in Devon, keen on local history and reading. I believe humans can be a positive keystone species and play our part with the more-than-human world. All views my own.

Good to hear Matthew Oates on the summer butterfly situation. Regarding Speckled Woods not having a great time during the count I have seen lots flying in the woods this last couple of days.

Who'd have thought that high commercialisation of a commodity, the promise of bigger profits, would drive companies to try and sell more product to a much bigger audience, through manipulative marketing and advertising. Isn't it obvious? And they'll use their clout to suppress adverse impacts. 2/2

Glyphosate harms wildlife as well as people. Studies found direct over-spraying caused up to 79% mortality in frogs and toads. Froglife supports Soil Association's call to ban pre-harvest glyphosate. Sign their petition: ow.ly/HRmc50YVYE4 #CutTheChemicals

I'm sure there will be detractors but giving these wonderful more-than-humans some space is a great thing and should be celebrated. Totally agree watching them shape their new home will be really insightful.

New poll just dropped! The only poll that matters is tomorrow. Please vote and if you can - get involved with your local campaign! Some of these seats are going to come to a handful of votes. Replace Labour. Stop Reform. Vote Green. 💚

What's worse than a smear campaign, is an orchestrated establishment smear campaign, using false accusations of anti-Semitism against the only Jewish party leader.

I visit this wonderful place a mile south of Knepp once a year after discovering it in 2014 as part of @sussexornitholo.bsky.social Nightingale survey. I approach with trepidation every time in case the scrub has been improved, or cleared for something else. Nightingale gave some subdued song. Phew!

A fabulous short walk through Ebernoe Common near Petworth, West Sussex yesterday. Signing Nightingales as soon as you walk through the gate of Furnace Meadow, meandering Ghyll streams, woodland flowers and a feeling of timelessness. Do go if you get a chance @sussexwildlife.bsky.social

Spending time at Washington Chalk Pits, always giddy with the diversity on show. Adding some adhoc records to #irecord and relishing the tension between shrub, tree and grassland. Burnet Rose in profusion and the reat of the small in scale but big in delight chalk herbs.

Right now, the UK Government is considering cuts to the nature-friendly farming budget – the biggest pot of funding for nature. Here’s why that would be a disaster for farmers, food security, and wildlife. A thread. 🧵👇
A tinted portrait of Rachel Reeves, the UK Chancellor, is overlaid with bold white text reading: "Is Rachel Reeves about to defund nature?" Below, lime-green text warns that the UK Government might be cutting the farming budget, which would be disastrous for both farmers and nature.
