Is anyone else doing the rounds of secondary school open days? Wondering if “they let you play footy on the astroturf at lunch time” is a reasonable criteria for first choice school? At this moment it’s as good as any I can come up with. #parenting #secondaryschool

On the train heading to Nottingham, the woman opposite me smiled at me, the woman serving coffee stopped for a chat. I always feel like I’m heading in the right direction going this way up the country.

My heart is full of Everjoice Win today, who has sadly died. She was an unparalleled commentator and women’s rights activist, a fierce defender of secular, feminist spaces, and aunt to my son. Here’s my fave of her writing - still as relevant today. Rest in power sister 💜 core.ac.uk/reader/43539...

Every IWD I have the same tantrum! There is no “theme”! A PR company that has nothing to do with the feminist movement makes it up! The “theme” website is run by Aurora Ventures! I’m sure they’re perfectly nice but they have nothing to do with feminist socialist grassroots movements!!!

The gender pay gap for writers stands at 36%, compared to the national average of 13%. Let's dwell on that for a minute. Female authors are paid 36% LESS than their male counterparts. Their time, expertise, skill and creativity is valued at a third less than that of men.

“He constantly threatened me that he would send me back to [my home country]” As part of our #16CaseStudiesFor16DaysOfActivism, we share with you Q’s account of the weaponisation of her immigration status by the perpetrator and her horrific experience of being abandoned abroad. 1/2
“There was only one reason that I stayed with my perpetrator – my children. I was afraid of being separated from my children. He was in control of my immigration status; he reminded me of this constantly. He constantly threatened me that he would send me back to X and would also hide the children’s passports so that I could never go back to X with them.”Q was referred to Southall Black Sisters’ (SBS) helpline through her sister-in-law to seek assistance to return to the UK and be reunited with her children. Q had been living in the UK for nearly 5 years when the perpetrator separated her from the children and abandoned her abroad. Throughout their relationship, Q experienced physical, sexual, economic, verbal, emotional abuse and coercive control. As Q is a migrant woman with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), she was also being controlled through her immigration status.

When Q contacted the SBS helpline, she had applied to return to the UK as a victim-survivor of Transnational Marriage Abandonment (TMA). SBS supported Q to strengthen her application by referring her to professionals and supporting her immigration application as a victim-survivor of domestic abuse. SBS referred Q to family law solicitors who are initiating wardship proceedings so Q can be reunited with her children. Q was recently granted the right to return to the UK, and will soon be travelling to the UK. SBS will continue supporting her to get her children back from the perpetrator.
