Today I asked the Education Minister if she will change the teacher training requirements so that every educator must demonstrate practical competency in identifying and supporting neurodivergent students before achieving qualified teacher status.

My statement on the reintroduction of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill:
Today I will be voting against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, as I did before.

With over 30 years’ experience of working in the NHS improving services for patients and carers, it is my belief that no patient should have to suffer with such pain where they feel that assistive dying is the only option left to them. Palliative care does work and brings about dignity to people as they near the end of their life. Universal palliative care should be made available to everyone.

I sat on the Bill committee for the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, in the last parliamentary session; I had concerns about coercion, unreliable prognosis, the influence of medical professionals and the protection of vulnerable people. There is also the wider question of inequality, people do not approach the end of life with equal access to hospice care, pain relief, psychological support, or help from their families.

As there are existing inequalities in the healthcare system, a system t

I welcome the Foreign Secretary’s announcement to introduce restrictions on trade in goods originating from illegal settlements in the West Bank. Alongside Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, the UK is sending a clear message that actions which undermine the prospects for peace cannot continue.

We firmly oppose the expansion of settlements, the annexation of Palestinian land and the forcible displacement of Palestinian communities. The Government of Israel must halt settlement expansion, ensure accountability for settler violence and investigate allegations made against Israeli forces.

We are equally clear in our determination to tackle antisemitism wherever it occurs.

The United Kingdom remains unequivocally committed to a two-state solution that enables Israel and a sovereign, democratic and viable Palestinian state to live side by side in peace, security and mutual recognition within secure and internationally recognise

Update on Local Government Reorganisation and Broxtowe’s 2027 local elections
The Government has announced that they are holding a rapid review into Local Government Reorganisation.

This is to ensure that in light of legal advice, the process for Local Government Reorganisation is robust and complies with the law.

I have raised a number of concerns about Local Government Reorganisation in Broxtowe with both the current and former the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government including questions about the expected savings, how the consultation responses were considered and the impact of splitting Broxtowe’s existing borough and parish councils across two authorities.

I hope that this pause will provide the Government with the opportunity to further consider these concerns.

This means that next May’s local elections in Broxtowe will be held for the existing boundaries for Broxtowe Borough Council.

The Labour Government have made plug in solar panels legal in Britain! These cost far less than installing traditional fixed panels and can be put in any outdoor space, or even on some balconies. This is a fantastic option to cut your energy bill by providing up to 20% of your electricity use.

My statement on today's Local Government Reorganisation announcement
Today the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed has announced the new authorities that will be established in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as part of local government reorganisation.
The Government have chosen option Bii. This means there will be two unitary authorities in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. For Broxtowe this means that Beeston, Bramcote, Stapleford, Awsworth, Cossall and Trowell will become part of the new Greater Nottingham authority while Eastwood, Brinsley and Greasley will be part of a new Nottinghamshire County authority.
There will be elections to the new unitary councils in May 2027. These elections will replace any scheduled local elections, and affected councillors will have their terms extended. The new councils will come into force in April 2028. Each new authority will receive an unprecedented £900,000 for the cost of transition and up to £150,000 in supplementary funding to support Children’s Services, Adult Social Care

Nottingham New Theatre has been the training ground for many of our country's performers, technicians, writers and journalists. I have written to VC Jane Norman to ask that the UoN work with the NNT committee to find a way to allow the theatre to continue.
Dear Jane,
I hope you are well.
7 July 2026
I am writing to you on behalf of constituents living in Beeston, as well as current
students and alumni of the University of Nottingham who are former members of the
Nottingham New Theatre (NNT). I wish to share my deep concern regarding the
University’s decision to not reopen or restore the New Theatre following its closure in
2023.
For some, the NNT was a reason that these students chose to study at the University
of Nottingham. It is far more than just a university facility, and for generations it has
been a unique cultural institution, as the only entirely student-run theatre in England.
Many of this country’s foremost performers, technicians, writers and journalists
started their careers in the NNT, which served as a training ground for them to refine
their skills.
I fully appreciate the challenging financial environment facing the university, yet I am
concerned that the permanent loss of the New Theatre would leave a significant blow
to the University’s student community and to the wider creative life in Broxtowe,
and Nottingham more widely.
I am asking the University to please work with the current NNT committee to find a
way forward that allows for this society to continue to grow and thrive.

MPs’ Statement on Donna Ockenden’s Independent Maternity Review of Nottingham
University Hospitals NHS Trust
Today, our thoughts are first and foremost with the bereaved families, harmed families and all those whose
lives have been forever changed by the events detailed within Donna Ockenden's report.
We pay tribute to every family who came forward and shared their experiences. Many have spent years
reliving unimaginable grief and trauma in pursuit of truth, accountability and change. Their courage,
determination and resilience have brought us to this moment.
We also recognise the staff who raised concerns and spoke out for patient safety, often at considerable
personal and professional cost.
Our thanks also go to Donna Ockenden and her team for their transparency and consistency with which
they have engaged with MPs whose constituents are served by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS
Trust.
The findings of this report are deeply concerning and make for difficult reading. TThe families who fought for this review have already changed Nottingham. Together, we must now ensure
their courage delivers change that protects families for generations to come.

A joint statement from local MPs on the arrests connected to the mortuary at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.
We are aware that two people have been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office in connection with the running of the mortuary service at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.
This is a serious and significant development, and we understand that affected families are likely to feel deep distress following this news.
We are meeting with Nottinghamshire Police regarding these arrests and the wider Operation Perth investigation into
maternity services later today. We also remain in close contact with the Chair of the Independent Review into Maternity Services, Donna Ockenden, and the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust leadership.
We will continue to press for accountability and justice for affected families, and for the change needed to ensure thatsuch horrific failures do not take place again.

My statement on Keir Starmer's resignation as Prime Minister:
I would like to share my gratitude to Keir Starmer for his service to our country as our Prime Minister and as Leader of the Labour Party.

As Leader of the Opposition, he turned the Labour Party around, taking us from our worst defeat since 1935 to bringing in a Labour Government for the first time in 14 years.

Under his leadership, this Government has delivered incredible progress: bringing down NHS waiting lists, securing the biggest upgrade in workers’ rights in a generation, abolishing no-fault evictions, introducing new breakfast clubs, and investing in the clean energy that will shape our future.

The decision to stand down cannot have been easy. I know his choice is based on what he believes to be the best course of action for the country and I thank him for his dedication and leadership, both at home and abroad.

My focus, as ever, remains firmly on Broxtowe and the people I represent.

A joint statement from Members of Parliament for areas served by Nottingham University Hospitals on last night's Panorama, Maternity Failures: The Fight for Justice
MPs' Statement on Panorama – Maternity Failures: The Fight for Justice
The experiences shared in Panorama's Maternity Failures: The Fight for Justice were shocking and
heartbreaking. The programme served as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that poor care,
failures in leadership and a lack of accountability can have on families.
Across Nottingham University Hospitals, too many parents have sufered the loss of a baby, life-altering
injuries and profound trauma at a time that should have been filled with hope and joy. Their experiences
are unacceptable, and the pain they continue to carry cannot be overlooked.
We want to recognise the families who have shown remarkable courage in speaking publicly about their
experiences and pursuing answers over many years. We also acknowledge the healthcare professionals
who raised concerns and helped bring these issues into the open.
The programme highlighted serious concerns about the toxic culture within maternity services, the

As Chair of the APPG for Dyslexia, I have submitted the APPG's response to the Schools White Paper Consultation and our recommendations. 🔗Link for our full submission to the consultation: julietcampbell.uk/2026/05/15/a...
Summary

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Dyslexia welcomes the Government’s ambition to reform the SEND system and improve inclusion. However, the APPG is concerned that the current proposals do not sufficiently recognise or address the needs of children and young people with dyslexia .

A central concern is the removal of “Cognition and Learning” from the proposed SEND code of practice. The APPG believes this creates a significant gap, as persistent literacy and numeracy difficulties do not map clearly onto the proposed areas of development. Without explicit recognition of cognition and learning needs, there is a serious risk that dyslexia will become less visible within the system, leading to delayed identification, inappropriate intervention and widening inequity.

Too many children continue to rely on schools alone to identify dyslexia because state-funded diagnostic pathways remain extremely limited. Identification is inconsistent, particularly for girls, children wit	explicitly recognise dyslexia within national guidance
	introduce universal early screening and stronger early identification pathways
	expand the specialist workforce, including dyslexia specialists and assessors
	strengthen accountability and review mechanisms within Individual Support Plans.
	ensure Inclusion Bases and “Experts at Hand” models include dyslexia specialist teachers as well as literacy and numeracy experts.
	improve national and local data collection on dyslexia and literacy difficulties
	ensure mainstream inclusion is properly resourced and supported by specialist expertise.
