Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 29/09/2026There are two in-training guide dogs in this cafe right now. Gorgeous black labs. We are keeping our adoring squee noises to a minimum but they're beautiful 😁 010
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026This here is why we come to Gail for the jokes, and stay for the advocacy. Self-awareness is a heck of a thing. 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Good people use the platform and the voice and the power they have to help pull up and defend the people who don't. And I constantly see you doing that. A true ally understands that the label is given, not taken, and I'd give it to you without a second thought. 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Thanks Gail. Our origins are less important than where we are now, and where we're going next. Trans folk tend to understand that more than most. I'm a masc-presenting agender queer thing and I'll admit I don't really read comics, but every time it matters I see you show up for us, and others. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Good! More of this! Just keep pissing them off and ignoring them to do it anyway. They might not shut up, but look at the sort of thing we'll get out of it! 000

Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Like, we're pretty much always together but this is a bit more intentional which is nice, we're just having some fun there trying out different games 🙂 Also they have a pillow which tells us it is definitely not a mimic, so that's reassuring. 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026-starting to be recognised and to recognise others, which is always nice. I've really missed having a place like this where I can just go and hang out and feel comfy and at home. And it's a good way to just spend a bit of quality time with Cuddles doing something different. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026-where I try to suss out how welcome I might be as myself. The sofas are super comfy, and I'm able to flop there for an hour and do some writing before we play. So we've worked it into our schedule to go every couple of weeks. We're not joining any other people games right now but we are- 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026I love this place though. It's a little out of the way in a repurposed mill (we live in what used to be lace country) with tons of stuff (like an excellent little coffee shop). The owner is great, and there's a big Progress Pride flag right 8n the counter s you enter which saved me to usual thing- 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026It helps that even though you can only ask the other player(s) 1 question, there is no rule against providing as much intonation to tour 2 word answer as you can. So that worked well for us 😆 The last couple of times we played Wyrmspan and Gwent. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026If you run out of ingredient cards before the sun goes up (it moves one place up with each stun), the witches win. You can't see the other person's cards unless they have Binx which lets them show their hand. And some cards let the witches cast spells. We won with 1 card left! 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026But, you know, we're not exactly mature over here so 🤷 It was fun, actually, and deeper than it sounds. Basically you work together to stop the Sander sisters from casting their spell, by throwing ingredients in to mess it up and stun a witch. You have to stun 3 times, each time ending a round 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026It was board game day today, which is where we go every couple of weeks to our nearby gaming store and play a couple of games. We've been starting with Unstable Unicorns because it's easy, cute, and fun, then picking another. This week we played the Hocus Pocus board game. Which is a kids game... 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Terrible things are happening to some of the side characters in my book right now and I don't like it (neither do they, tbf). And yet I keep writing. Not sure everyone is coming out of this alive though... 🙁 I knew they probably wouldn't all make it, but its happening and I hate it. 000

It would be better if it was KNOW MORE SO YOU CAN WRITE ABOUT IT. Every good writer I know is constantly researching and getting new information and asking experts. It's a terrible bit of advice! 1031611310
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Right? I write whatever weird shit my characters make me write (I have no control, they do whatever they want). Which means I spend a lot of time down rabbit holes, but it's one of the things I love most about making stories It's such a great excuse to go learn new things. 010
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026I had my annual health checkup today. All pretty good, actually. Lost 4kg since last year, my blood sugar is steady, my cholesterol has improved, and everything else is good. If it wasn't for the chronic pains, brain fog, and mental health, I'd be in pretty good shape 😆 010
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026Which means a better idea of how to help, as much as we can with something like this. Cuddles has a complicated relationship with her own hearing so we're used to adjusting as needed 😆 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 22/09/2026We're pretty sure, through some experiments and generally paying attention, that it's Doofus' left ear that's going deaf, for the most part. Knowing doesn't change anything in general ofc, but it does explain a couple of issues shes been having and give us a better idea of what she's going through 100

Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 19/09/2026Your #Caturday this week has to be Monster, because she's barely moved her butt from my hip since we got home on Thursday after two whole nights away. Clearly I'm not allowed to leave the house ever again. 042

Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Cuddles was at this point outside with the dog, then we switched so I could be with the dog and Cuddles could hang out and get her book signed. It was great. And aside from the dog (who was Very Sad that her humans kept vanishing) a good time was had by all. 110
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Of course the main point of the Nottingham trip was this. Getting to hang out a little with Miss @gailcarriger.bsky.social and other readers was lovely. I don't get many photos of me (seriously I look like someone stuck a football on top of a tube 😆) but I think I'll keep this one 😁 1101
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Notts was always a friendly place for me, both in general and queer friendly. It was still years after I left before I realised I was trans, but I was always sapphic and I loved being a part of that. I'll use my new totes and pins with appropriate Pride. As will Cuddles and CuddleDad 😁 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026We encountered @theprideshop.bsky.social right next to our hotel so after checking out today we had a drink there and bought some stuff. Lovely place, lovely guy there that I chatted to. I'd be there on the regular if I still lived close enough but dropping a little cash was the least we could do. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026So nice to be able to reach out and get a kitty again. I've been doing that thr entire time we've been away and no kitties have been there. I missed them. We did go last the kitty cafe to peek at the cuties inside, but obv we couldn't go in because dog. 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026I am in no hurry to take that scooter on a bus or train again but aside from the travel bits, we had a nice time. More after I recover a bit, currently everywhere hurts and my entire back seems to be in spasm 😭 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026So I wound up gritting my teeth through the pain of holding a largeish staffie while we wrestled her back into the harness so I could get her off the bus. But bless that bus driver, he was understanding of the dog issue and let us take a second to solve it, then helped out with the scooter. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Well the dog panicked when Cuddles got up to start shifting my scooter for me (she is WAY better at getting it round tight spots because she will just lift/drag it, which I can't do) and managed to slide entirely out if her harness. So I grabbed her collar and she almost slipped that too. 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026We all made it home in one piece, only about an hour or so later than scheduled because first the train was late then the first bus that came alr had prams in the spots where my scooter would otherwise go. Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Currently not at home and it says it won't run right on my phone, so I'm saving this as a lil treat for when I get through a task I must complete over the weekend 😁 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Now that's an excellent plan! Thank you, I'll rack up some listens on them. 110
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 17/09/2026Same. If I tried really hard maybe I could somehow consume a negative amount? I don't even remember the guy exists most days. I could not possibly be less interested than I already was and yet somehow I now am? 🤷 030
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 15/09/2026We have an accessible room in the hotel, which means the bathroom is a wet room, and I am so fucking happy right now. Our bathroom at home is small and has only a shower stall so getting clean is a nightmare of pain that takes forever. I just spent 15mins in the wet room and I am squeaky clean. 010
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 15/09/2026She has a tiny cut on her back leg. Not that she's noticed or anything. Anyway Passenger Assist worked perfectly, everyone was super good and ready for me, so I might fret 2% less on the way home 😁 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 15/09/2026We made it to Nottingham in mostly one piece. Doofus managed to walk under the front of my scooter. She runs in front of me all the time and I never hit her, she just did it in the single second I looked away from her to check the time on the train clock 🤦 100
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 15/09/2026We don't go away much, especially given how much everything tends to hurt me, but sometimes it's just worth the effort. 000
Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 15/09/2026Off to Nottingham tomorrow. The cats are suspicious about the newly packed bags, and they're gonna be super mad at us when we get home on Thursday. Lee Hulme (it/its) @leehulme.com · 14/09/2026It's really fucked to be glad I'm too disabled to work because it means not facing the impact of being trans at work.
