The little 16th century item of clothing known as a partlet is usually shown in plain black or white in portraits, but this flea market find of 20th century eyelet fabric told me it wanted to be a partlet, with bead bling and a black wool lining.🪡
A partlet, which is a kind of Elizabethan dickey that covers the shoulders and bosom and can be pinned over your gown. This one is white eyelet fabric with a black lining, and alternating motifs in the eyelet pattern have been given a starburst of a gold bead with 8 gold colored bugle beads radiating from it.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is. GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart. But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.
Boromir from THE LORD OF THE RINGS, holding The One Ring. He thought he could use it for good, but everything done with the ring turns to evil. He was one of the mightiest warriors of middle earth, and he could not resist its powers. Others even mightier fell to the ring. Do you think you are stronger than them? The One Ring is generative AI.

90 minutes of turnpike driving each way, dodging Amish buggies on winding roads, to get to an antiques fair and find beautiful and repurposable textiles. All this for $74 plus tolls. 🪡
On a green flannel sheet, strips of various laces, a crochet yoke for a top, table covers of various sizes with embroidery, cutwork, pulled thread work, eyelet work, and more. They will end up as parts of Victorian or Edwardian blouses and lingerie, Jacobean falling collars, Elizabethan ruffs and partlets.

How to use up slightly damaged satin and a whole bunch of scraps of this and that, with a plaid flannel lining. EowynsCloset on Etsy 🪡
Front view of a short jacket for a woman. Black satin with random white marks, long sleeves, collar, slightly double-breasted. Its left sleeve has raggedy silver knit, similar to chain mail, hanging from the shoulder. Its right sleeve is overlaid with netting bearing a flocked slightly sparkly spiderweb pattern. Both turned up, notched cuffs are of a patterned black fabric printed with thorny vines and skull and crossbones motifs. The front side panels are overlaid with pinkish purplish lace outlined with white and gold beads. The collar is edged with black bugle beads and silver beads and has a few random bead motifs in the same. Carved shell buttons shaped like flowers line up on the overlapped front edge. The back of the jacket has a triangular vintage embroidered lace section centered below the collar, a vertical strip of white lace on the left, and part of a white doily trapped in a seam. The spiderweb sleeveThe ragged chain mail sleeve

Not bad for three sets of cotton curtain panels bought in 2019. More Outlander than historically accurate, but I finally used that fabric. EowynsCloset on Etsy 🪡
An 18th century gown on a dress form padded to the right size. Gown in striped fabric in rust, olive, brown, and gold printed on a floral damask. Gown has side slits for reaching pockets beneath, and fabric and lace sleeve ruffles. The skirt is open in the front and the bodice is closed with criss-cross lacing through metal grommets. Under the skirt is a petticoat in a floral print in the same colors, also over damask. The petticoat ties at the sides and has pocket slits. Under the lacing on the bodice is a boned stomacher with the floral fabric on the front and striped on the back. It's size 22.

These highly structured, technically complex, hand-stitched Elizabethan French hoods brought to you by someone dressed comfortably in scrubs pants and a Linkin Park Underground T-shirt full of holes. I just make 'em, I don't wear 'em.🪡
Two faceless head shapes wearing fancy headgear. Both French hoods have a white linen base with a pleated gold frill around the face. Each is topped by a crescent edged top and bottom with lines of faux pearls and gold beads. The crescent on the left is covered in black velvet, the one on the right with dark red velvet. These are a custom order, but others can be found or ordered at EowynsCloset on Etsy. Back view of the French hoods. Each has a black satin veil attached to the top of the crescent.

I don't usually get to see what happens to my Elizabethan ruffs after they are sent out, but this one has come home for cleaning and resetting. Starch is still stiff. Holes from pinning it in place, as well as sweaty discoloration. Let's freshen up, my child.
An Elizabethan ruff, home for cleaning. The neckband and inner edges of the gathered loops show brownish sweat stains. Pin holes show where it was repeatedly pinned at front edges and center back to a collar. Starch is still reasonably stiff, so I get to see that it does hold up over time. Will be washed, soaked in Oxiclean if necessary, starched, set with a curling iron, and sent back to its owner.
