Today's figure of the day is a dinogorgon from Schleich! It is cool to think of these weird predators as our ancestors.
A dinogorgon figurine poses on a box. This therapsid features powerful jaws and large fangs, tensed 5 fingered limbs, and a short tail. The figure is depicted hairless.

Today's figure of the day is Huayangosaurus, made by Haolonggood. This figure is teeny tiny at 1/35 scale, and the paint job has a few stains from an overenthusiastic wash. Another in my small but growing collection from the Shaximiao formation.
A Huayangosaurus figure stands on a box. This stegosaurian dinosaur is depicted with shoulder spikes as well as 16 rows of plates on its back. The plates are not as wide as those of Stegosaurus. The tail (often called a thagomizer) has four spikes on it. The Huayangosaurus is tilting its neck down as if to feed on low vegetation.

Today's figure of the day is Nemicolopterus, an indeterminate species of pterosaur from China. Is it a juvenile or adult? We aren't sure because some pterosaurs had fused bones earlier in their development. This little figure used to be very rare, but then PNSO made another run.
A nemicolopterus figure sits on a box. This pterosaur model has no head crest but a long head (as long as the body) and short tail. It is posed with all four limbs touching the ground, the wings folded back, and head inclined.

Todays's figure of the day is Lythronax, from Creative Beast! This was a midsized Tyrannosaurid that probably loved to eat Diabloceratops. Luckily, Creative Beast also made some Diabloceratops babies so you can recreate that spectacle at home.
A Lythronax action figure stands on a box. This tyrannosaurid dinosaur has a large head and prominent jaw, small preorbital horns, and small two-fingered arms. This dinosaur was painted with a sandy camouflage suitable for brush, which may not match the wet seasonal environment of the Wahweap formation.

Today's figure of the day is a Sinraptor from Vitae. I can't get this toy to stand properly and Vitae made a lot of choices that i would not have. It is frankly too textured, or maybe textured without reason. But i love the Shaximiao formation and try to pick up whatever i can from it.
A figure of Sinraptor is propped up against a box. This therapod dinosaur is depicted with short, three-clawed hands, small dorsal spines, no lips, and an overall weathered appearance. One leg is planted while the other trails behind. The tail sways in an s-curve.

Today's figure of the day is this Tethyshadros pair from Wild Past! The main appeal is the miniature size, fitting for an island dwarf.
A pair of Tethyshadros sit on a box. This ornithiscian dinosaur was an island dwarf but otherwise has a typical hadrosaur body plan. One sits with forelimbs spread in front, back limbs sprawled to one side. The other stands on hind limbs, lifting its head to bellow.

Today's figure of the day is Nigersaurus, made by Safari Ltd. This sauropod has such a bizarre head. There are some proportional issues with this figure, but it sure beats the collecta and Mattel versions. It has a strange dignity.
A figurine of a Nigersaurus stands on a box. This small sauropod dinosaur has a unique head shaped like the end of a vacuum cleaner, lined with hundreds of tiny teeth.

Today's figure of the day is a Hyaenodon made by Safari Ltd. What a fearsome brute.

it's been a minute since i posted a figure of the day. Here is a Mastodonsaurus, a Triassic temnospondyl that grew to 20 feet. Manufacturer is Bullyland. This is a highly coveted figure in my little community. I like it because I think it looks like hypnotoad.
A figure of a Mastodonsaurus sits on a box. This amphibian-like creature has four limbs, a thick tail, and a large mouth. Bumps on its head indicate where the skull has holes to make room for the gigantic tusks in its lower jaw. The head is marked with several bulbous patches to indicate sensory organs.

Today's figure of the day is a Zhuchengtitan made by Meng. Even though some companies have started putting out huge sauropods, it's nice to have a few at a smaller scale.

Todays's figure of the day is a Gastornis from Safari Ltd. This large flightless bird was once believed to be a fearsome predator but many now think it was more likely to be vegetarian.
A model figure of Gastornis stands on a table. This flightless bird has a large, imposing beak, tiny wings, and big powerful feet. The model has the head posed downward as if foraging. The legs are featherless.

Today's figure is this Carnegie collection Caudipteryx. I missed out on most of the really cool carnegies and now they are hard to find for a good price. This weird little dude is a joy (there is also a toob version from safari ltd proper that is a different sculpt).
A model caudipteryx crows on a book. This dinosaur figure has a long neck, pointy beak, large eyes, and outspread feathered arms. The long legs are bare, but the tail ends in an impressive fan.

Today's figure of the day is a dodo from safari ltd. Apparently this depiction is a little rounder than they got in their natural habitat, but most images of dodos were made of overfed birds in captivity.

A model of Brighstoneus prances in the sunlight. This four legged dinosaur has smaller forelimbs with five digits, and longer hind limbs with three digits. The tail is roughly the length of the body. Its head is raised, alert but not alarmed. Brighstoneus has a closed mouth and a cute beak.

We tend to see sauropods as huge roaming or herd animals, but the reality may have been a little more complex. I like to think of them as "motherships" of life, mobile biotopes in themselves that were always surrounded by a lot of traveling companions #paleoart

Today's figure is Helicoprion from PNSO. Though similar to a shark in reconstruction, this is a chimera fish. Most of the body is pure guesswork because cartilage is not preserved. But those saw-like teeth are found all over the world.
A toy model of Helicoprion rests on a table. This extinct cartilaginous fish is best known for its "tooth whorl", a semicircular wheel of teeth on the lower jaw used for crushing shells. It has a long snout for its nares.

It has a beaked mouth and a sloped head, with a thick neck.A toy model of Argentinosaurus stands on a side table. Today's figure of the day is Tupuxuara, made by Papo. This has the trademark "monstrous" feel that I generally don't like about Papo's prehistoric figures, but the unique pose and choice of animal--in this case--more than make up for a lack of feathers. #pterotoys #papo
A Tupuxuara figure rests on a table. This pterosaur is posed with mouth open in a bleating posture, tongue wiggling. The impressive head crest is tinged with bold color. One arm is on the ground with the other raised in a swiping posture. The wings are folded. This figure lacks feathering.

Today's figure of the day is a Woolly Mammoth from Safari Ltd. This figure feels animated, a little cartoony, partly due to the bulging eyes and wide open mouth. I like how the hair texture changes down the legs. #mammaltoys #safariltd
A woolly mammoth figure stands on a desk. It is covered with unkempt, long fur, including a mop on the crown of its head and a small shoulder hump. The mammoth is bellowing, mouth open, holding its trunk high. Two creamy tusks curl upward, nearly as long as the trunk. The ears and tail are similarly shaggy and flappy.
