From 1959 to 1965, Wynn Bullock created amazing abstract color images on 35mm Kodachrome slides. The process, which he developed himself, involved complex multi-layered colored glass and objects, plus the creative and subtle use of depth of field. Color Light Abstraction 1094 #WynnBullock

Queer AF* (*as fungi) - a snapshot from our walk beyond binaries on the Wanstead Flats with fungi futures this weekend.
A ground level view. A woman in scarf, gloves and long coat crouches down in long grass to examine the bracket fungus on a log. A group of people stands around her looking at the log.

👀 lots of folks QT'ing to say: women — submit your manuscripts! I think what has to come first is: universities, fix your gendered service and teaching inequities, and society, balance out your care work, so women *have time* to write the damn manuscripts. So many women colleagues are BURNT OUT.

Our 6th and final paper making workshop at the Institute of Making, UCL East - using leftover kozo, cotton and sisal from previous sessions, and pulling one massive sheet between three of us. Thanks to artist Mandy Brannan for a wonderful course!
Large sheet of just pulled paper laid out on a faded pink towel and white interfacing. The paper has a colour gradient from ochre on the left to sea green on the right. There are darker blotches of yellow in the middle. Two sheets of hand pulled paper laid out on a sheet of interfacing. The papers are made with longer kozo fibres, and both have a subtle green gradient on one edge. Five sheets of hand made papers of various sizes drying on a window. All have natural kozo fibre bases, and are layered with green cotton of different shapes to give a gradient effect.

Paper making masterclass with Mandy Brannan, week 5 - experimentation with mixed fibres and techniques. The images show mixed papers made with kozo and pigmented cotton using the Japanese method. I’m excited the translucency of the kozo, and the escaping yellow fibres.
Mixed handmade papers drying on a window. The papers range in colour from soft white to pinkish orange. Some have yellow splodges, others are flecked with orange-red fibres. The grand finale belonged to this drama queen, the glistening inky cap. While you can eat it, it’s not really worth the effort.
A finger points to a cluster of mushrooms near a hardwood roundel, in the midst of fallen, dead leaves. The mushrooms are ochre in the centre and darker brown around the edges. The younger examples are bell shaped with a slightly glistening surface, while the more mature mushrooms have flattened or slightly convex caps.

Behold, this absolutely enormous bracket fungus! Would provide partial cover in a downpour.
A large bracket fungus protrudes from a living tree trunk in the midst of a leafy, green woodland. A hand reaches up from the right of the image to hold the edge of the fungus.

These little white protrusions from the dead wood are candle snuff fungi. They are bioluminescent (fairy lights!) and they release little clouds of spores when tickled.
A close up of a section of decayed dead wood with small, white tipped fungi protruding from the gaps and troughs of the wood. In the corner of the image, a hand with painted nails tickles the tips of the fungi.

This tawny funnel mushroom was growing on a loose piece of bark. You can see the cotton-like mycelia at the base. It smells slightly sweet, and it’s edible. We put it back.
A close up of two hands in fingerless gloves holding a cluster of three mushrooms. The mushrooms are ochre and vase-like in shape. They dip in the centre, and have pale gills around the upturned base.

I dreamt of a near-future US fascist empire extending across Europe. A well-meaning attempt at a bioengineered solution to climate change had resulted in hyper growth plants that seeded out of control and leeched the soil. Everyone was eating old canned food. Do not recommend this scenario.

Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!

A small mosaic glass inlay. The decoration shows a black-and-white Egyptian ibis, striding from right to left along a red ground line. The bird really stands out against the bright green background of the glass.
