I know we have the midterms coming up in November and election deniers are on the ballot in most US states (excellent reporting from @davidgilbert.bsky.social to come tomorrow on that, actually) but having the AFPI burrow its way into the Census, is something new, and really forward-looking.

They access to sensitive data and have contributed to a public report that bolsters conspiracy theories undermining trust in elections. And with that nonsensical report on noncitizen voting, their vision for the US is now explicitly quantified forevermore in the government's data.

So as @telliotter.bsky.social continued to look at the report, and the AFPI's role in it, she found that striking number 7 - the fact that 7 more people from this MAGA think tank had made their way to the census bureau was astounding. Experts she spoke to were shocked, and called it highly unusual:

Basically, the report claimed that noncitizens were voting in droves, that an analysis of over 128 million voter records from 2020 showed 24,000 noncitizen voters. Census Bureau employees who spoke to WIRED allege it is much likelier that these numbers represent basic analytical errors.

The AFPI was actually founded in 2021 (just a few months after January 6) by Rollins, McMahon, and others to "accelerate the transformative, positive changes in American life driven by America First policies." It's goals, and what it's done since, probably won't surprise you. Check them out:

First off, the Census Bureau. The bureau collects data that goes on to influence massive amounts of US policy - including the drawing of congressional districts. All to say, in addition to being home to troves of sensitive data on nearly every person in the US, the Bureau impacts voting rights.
