I finally settled on a definition of cinematic that closely resembles what Patrick Willems lands on in his video: youtu.be/ZbByKUDJlbI?... Actual play is not cinematic for many of the same reasons TV shows are not cinematic. The medium may look very similar, but the format and tools are different.

A screenshot from the video showing text reading "cinematic / possessing the quality that comes from effectively using the tools of cinema to tell a story or express an idea in a way that would not be possible in another medium."

If you need a little joy today (and I know I did!) Nikon has released their annual 2026 Finalists for the Comedy Wildlife Awards. There's something in the full gallery that'll bring a smile to your face: www.comedywildlifephoto.com/gallery/fina... My favorites both involve owls, and are amazing!

“Resting Owl Face” by Ka Chum Jacky Sung - an owl on a branch looking into the camera with the most angry look on its face you can imagine!

“Are You Kidding Me?” by Kevin Lohman - A young own looks up in surprise at a squirrel in mid flight attack, all four legs outstretched ready to land right on it.

There were a few reasons I made a trip to @fridaytea.com and one of the main ones was that I discovered we were out of Mexican Mulling Cacao. We will not have that problem again for a little while.

Took a quick trip out to @fridaytea.com with @lukemckay.bsky.social to pick up a couple of teas we were out of, and then grabbed a bag of Dicks Drive-In. We almost got the Jimothy tea pet, but that will have to happen on a future trip!

Last night I ran a session of Forgotten Odysseys for friends and we had a blast! I've played MÖRK BORG before but never GMed. When @badeye.bsky.social & @brokendoorgames.bsky.social put the game out I knew this was a setting I wanted to try! I had so much fun GMing a PC carrying around a ladder.

A black and white drawing of four characters, all in various basic Greek outfits. The one on the left is holding a ladder, the next has an impressive cape and badge of office, the next a long spear and a patch over one eye, and the last a shield connected to an arm cut off at the elbow and an arrow sticking out of an eye with a small owl perched on it.

I promised I'd do something for myself yesterday. So I spent time outside with the birbs. If I have a handful of almonds & the Stellar Jays notice they'll hang in the tree nearby ready to swoop down for a treat as soon as I toss some to the ground. If I don't throw fast enough they glare at me.

The most important moments in a #ttrpg game to me are character interactions & the storytelling they inspire. Among all the beautiful roleplaying moments I've enjoyed with Shadows Over Baldur's Gate on @crithitchronicles.com it's fun to also say... ...look it's my first time reading a #dnd Manual!

Submitting your panel: - Confirm and communicate everything! If something changes, let folks know! - Don't rely on the con deadline, ask your panelists for deadlines a week before the con time. - Clearly define everyone's roles. - Email templates, Google docs, put stuff online for quick access.

The Timeline slide: Draft panel idea (1-3 months out) Reach out to panelists (1-4 months out) Write up submission text (1 month out) Submit panel event (Submission window) Follow up with panelists (3-5 days after getting results) Create/Edit/Finalist panel content (1 month before event)

It's not that my #dnd character NEEDS a Wand of Teeth. But the idea of suddenly switching from a terrifyingly deadly sniper with a longbow to spraying a group of enemies with spectral molars is exactly the chaos she would choose!

Wand of Teeth, rare. This wand has 10 charges. While holding it, you can take a Magic action to expend up to 3 charged to spray a wave of sharp, spectral teeth in the direction you point it. Each creature in a 30-foot cone makes a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. Roll a number of d8s equal to the number of charges expended. On a failed save, a creature takes Piercing damage equal to the total rolled and has the Poisoned condition until the start of your next turn; on a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage only.
