Exactly this. There were *so many* good songs in musical theatre up to the early 70s. Cole Porter. Irving Berlin. The Gershwins. Brecht and Weill. Rodgers and Hart/Hammerstein. And then it just stops dead with the Lloydwebberfication of Broadway and the West End.

Sometimes in my Japanese lessons I'll use a word I've learnt from Masha's songs & the teacher will tell me it's too poetic for everyday use. Today I said 美しき (utsukushiki) to mean "beautiful" when it should've been 美しい (utsukushii). #福山雅治 #BROS1991
