The problem with that, as I see it, is that racism and misogyny should already be disqualifying traits in a candidate for or holder of public office. But those things apparently weren’t an issue for a lot of folks who supported Platner before it came out that he is also a rapist.

He wasn’t better vetted because the things about his character that should have disqualified him from holding high political office, including but not limited to his abysmal judgment, were simply not that bad in a lot of y’all’s eyes, especially if it meant Collins got unseated.
