Day one of the Factor forensic linguistics summer school done and I’m really enjoying it so far. I did my MA at @lancslinguistics.bsky.social before they did much in this area. I enjoyed sociophonetics so seeing some of the more applied aspects with forensic speech science was a great start!
A slide on voice identification discussing that voices have been used to identify individuals for a long time through various sources like phone calls, taxi calls, cctv or surveillance footageA bookmark advertising the MSc Forensic Linguistics and Speech Science, on top of my factor notebook and new pens. If I could do another Masters I’d consider this one!!A slide titled ‘the voice is not a constant’ with images to show how voice may change for context or audience, it featured two short clips of Gillian Anderson using her American and English accents depending on her audience. A Lancaster University tote back featuring a line image of a duck. On my way back to the car I walked past many ducks and several ducklings.
