(Also, yes, there *is* a happy ending for everyone involved! No Mo Xuanyus will be left behind on my watch!)

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

He isn't sure what strange dreamworld he's walked into, but he sure as hell doesn't want to wake up. A shame, considering Modern Mo Xuanyu is quite hellbent on getting home. At least Canon Mo Xuanyu will be coming back to a world that's much kinder to him? If everything goes right, that is…

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Also, apparently cut-sleeves are more accepted in this strange world he woke up in??? He's not complaining, but he *does* have questions. Also, why do so many of these people look like people he knows, but also… not? And why is this guy whose definitely Out Of His League acting like they're lovers?!

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Canon era Mo Xuanyu, on the other hand, has to navigate a world that seems so much different from his own. Cultivators aren't a thing — or maybe they are, but they're so different that he barely recognises them as such — and there are so many strange new things that it makes his head spin.

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

(Bonus points if he's dating someone who just so happens to *also* share a name and appearance with one of the characters — especially if said character also dies so now he has even more motivation to change things.)

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Basically I want Modern Mo Xuanyu to quickly recognise the circumstances he's in as the same as those as a character who happened to share his name in a book he read recently, and realising that he's going to have to fuck things up *heavily* if he wants to get out of there alive.

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

hmm… I guess we don't have to stick too close to canon, why not fuck up the timeline a little to make things work? Anyway!

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Maybe it takes place before canon Mo Xuanyu gets kicked out of Koi Tower? It can't be directly before the ritual, because that would be too late for Modern Mo Xuanyu to change anything, but I would like for him to be an adult…

120

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Thinking about an AU where Modern AU Mo Xuanyu transmigrates into canon-era Mo Xuanyu, and vice versa.

LamentfulWarbler 🌿 @lamentwarbao3.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Canonically, I fear he probably dgaf, but in my heart? In my heart he definitely spends at least some time thinking about his uncle, wondering if he ever even knew him. If the few memories he has of the man are real, or if they’ve been tainted — corrupted — by time and rumours and lies.

Two-panel doodle comic featuring Nie Huaisang & Nie MIngjue from artsy-alice's modern AU. First panel: NHS hands NMJ a cardboard box with the label "JUST FANS" and says "Can Da-ge help carry this pls thank you!" surrounded by flowers. NMJ prepares to accept the box and says "Yeah, sure-" Overlapped with the second panel: NHS turns around to leave, saying "Ok, now I'll get the heavy ones!" while NMJ is hunched over surprised by the weight of the box he now has in his hands, a small "?!!" beside his baffled expression.

Jin Zixuan and his Ghost Gege!

Summary:

When Mo Xuanyu woke up in that strange golden room, the last thing he'd expected was for a child to claim him as their older brother. Especially not one that looked so similar to his nephews.

...Almost too similar, if you asked him.

Happy 2nd birthday to this RBB fic, where I got to spend way too much time imagining Mo Xuanyu, and what was going through Nie Huaisang's head for 16 years. archiveofourown.org/works/58018039

Smile and Be a Villain, by Ashura

The coffin is empty.
A rage unlike anything he ever imagined himself capable of swells and fills Huaisang’s body, suffusing blood and skin and under-developed meridians. His hands tremble against the stone, his heart thundering an irregular rhythm against his ribs.
‘Nie-zongzhu,’ Nie Yichen murmurs, heartbroken, and Huaisang doesn’t know if it’s directed at him, or his dead, absent brother.
---
Nie Huaisang knows how his brother would prefer to be avenged. He also knows that a direct challenge to the Jin would go poorly for him. He will wait, and bide his time, and he will take everything from the backstabbing villain who took away his brother. But even he doesn't realise just how deep the Jin corruption goes, and how the least promising ally will be the one to help him defeat it.

As Long As You Need

LamentfulWarbler

Summary:

When Jiang Yanli had first died, all those years ago, she never could've expected she would be trapped in a time loop. Too late to save her husband, too weak to save her brother, after so many times reliving the same thirteen years she no longer believed that there would ever be an escape. The monotonous years in the wake of her loved ones' deaths never changed — at least, she thought that was the case. So when she noticed that certain people were starting to act differently... who could blame her for being curious?

Summary

A soulmate, Mo Xuanyu's mother explained, was a special person your fate was connected to. This person could take many forms once Mo Xuanyu found them — a future wife, or a sworn brother, or maybe even a teacher — and their partnership would be strengthened by sharing each other's hardship since before they ever met.

"Not everybody is so blessed as to share a lifetime with their soulmate," his mother said. "Be happy that you may someday find yours."
