Surinam toads are ambush predators who wait in murky water with outstretched arms for prey to approach, then suck it into their mouth without even touching it. UCLA research has shown that Surinam toads have extremely sensitive fingertips that can sense the movement of fish in water. 🧪

#FossilFriday brings canoodling Seymouria, a largely terrestrial Permian tetrapod thought to be a stem amphibian. This replica is from our collection, but the original is apparently at Carnegie. They're called the Tambach lovers, although Seymouria aggregations have been found elsewhere too. 🧪⚒️

One really good reason I have for being part of a reading group is having to read books I would never normally touch with a barge pole. Lablit can be in almost any genre - apart from sci-fi & fantasy. We have even read a couple of romance stories! 👍 🩵📚

Refreshing to see some actual prolonged cool weather, marked at times in a forecast model. Been shockingly absent following the first 10 days of January it’s practically been nonstop mild, often excessive apart from one cool week in mid May. (1/2)
