Four bills now in Congress are attempting a nationwide erasure of #LGBTQ+ books and history from public #libraries and classrooms. Representation saves lives. Silence is not neutrality. Stand with us - Demand #Louisiana leaders vote NO on national book ban bills: la-cac.org #LGBTQ #StopCensorship

When vague laws put funding at risk, schools often “play it safe.” That can mean avoiding #books, removing materials & silencing discussions. Four bills could now create that kind of chilling effect. Tell #Louisiana's Congressmen: don't make #censorship national policy. Learn more: la-cac.org

Listening to Lois Lowry’s “The Giver” on audiobook. Was struck this morning by this exchange, less than 24 hours after our lieutenant governor’s press conference demanding book censorship. “We really have to protect people from wrong choices.” “Yes, safer that way,” said the Giver.

It's normal in libraries to see a small number of book challenges by parents & patrons who have concerns about content. Today, however, 92% come from organized groups, including officials and dark money groups like Citizens for a New LA. It's time we reclaim our libraries for the people they serve.

Today the ALA released its 2025 most challenged books list. Across genres and ages, one trend persists: these bans target marginalized voices. Reading about others teaches empathy & promotes understanding; it's time to ask ourselves why that idea is so threatening to those who want to ban books.
