I'm putting together a session for the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology (Gwangju, Korea, 4-10 July 2027) on how micro-level behavior adds up to stable macro-level inequality. I'd love to see diverse and unconventional approaches in the room. isaconf.confex.com/isaconf/wc20...

Would it be that bad after all if universities stopped using citation metrics to evaluate candidates?

As some of you guessed, the two models are statistically indistinguishable. The answer is Model 1, but there was no way to tell from the data. I was very surprised when I first saw this. Here we show that this confounding of heterogeneity and reinforcement is general: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

On March 9th, a French researcher was denied entry in the US because of messages found his phone that were critical of the Trump administration (automatic translation) @standupforscience.bsky.social @standupforscifr.bsky.social
screenshot: According to a diplomatic source to AFP, the incident occurred on March 9. This space researcher allegedly underwent a random check on arrival, during which his work computer and personal phone were searched. From the same source, messages referring to the treatment of scientists by the Trump administration would have been found. He would have been accused of messages "which reflect hatred towards Trump and can be described as terrorism". His professional and personal equipment was confiscated and the researcher was sent back to Europe the next day.
