Rainbow-y background. "I love people who are intellectually omnivorous. The kind who can discuss folklore, black holes, bird migration, poetry, and grocery store pricing in a single conversation without getting lost."

It's national badger day today. If you've been lucky enough to see one (alive), you'll know how amazing they are. I have a few times, including a cub this year. Treasure them 🦡❤️

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A man (30s?) is snoozing on his back on some grass in a park. A fast asleep tiny human (1?) sprawled across his tummy. Both soaking up the spring sunshine as a tūī calls from a tree branch overhead.

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A small human (3?) is skipping along next to Dad while holding a threadbare plushie bunny. With utmost solemnity he says: "Dad I REALLY think you should carry me." Dad says: "Why'd ya think that mate?" "Cos Rabbit's got VERY TIRED legs."

I endorse this message. Cooking from scratch is a skill that needs to be built up to Not to mention procurement (grocery shopping), inventory management (pantry rotation), managing supplies (meal planning) I'm 20 years in & I still keep jarlic for the days I just can't

Merriam Webster ‘Phonetic’ is not. ‘Abbreviation’ has twelve letters. ‘Thesaurus’ doesn’t have a synonym. ‘Monosyllabic’ has five syllables. Say what you will about English, but it has a sense of humour.

Some months demand hustle; October asks for tea, a cat, and a quiet escape between two covers.

I don’t think I’m the only person who will appreciate this
Triangular diagram labelled The Introvert
Hierarchy of Needs.

Top: Self-actualisation - A completely empty house. An arrow pointing to the house says “Nobody needs anything. Nobody is coming home for hours. Phone on silent.”

The next level is Esteem - Plans getting cancelled. An arrow here says “‘Sorry, we're going to have to rearrange.’ Oh no. That's terrible. I'm devastated.”

Next level: Belonging - One person you actually like. No group chat. No networking. No "let's go round and introduce ourselves." Just one person you can talk absolute shit with.

Fourth level: Safety - An escape route. Own car. End seat. Knowing exactly when the event finishes. A believable reason to leave early.

Bottom of pyramid: Physiological needs - Being left the fuck alone for a bit. Food. Water. Sleep. 45 minutes where nobody speaks to you.

My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Title: Just announced! Three new Gruffalo books commissioned from bestselling authors!

Lee Chilld:
The Gruffalo just wants a quiet life, but when a crime syndicate moves into the deep dark wood, he must use his terrible claws and the terrible teeth in his terrible jaws to protect the fellow.

Sally Rooney:
The Gruffalo moves to contemporary Dublin. He
ill ever see past his orange eyes, purple prickles and poisonous wart.

Kazuo Ishiguro:
After a long absence, the gruffalo returns to the forest and attempts to make sense of his past. Encounters with a mouse, a fox, an owl and a snake uncover long-buried memories, regrets and revelations.

With words by Rumi And a big day for me today as my new website has gone live. All coded by my newly graduated son who headed off to the big smoke yesterday to start his new job. Slightly sad mum who will be enjoying extra donkey love to compensate. www.samcannonart.com

🧵Spotted on a Rainy Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand: A small human (3?) is clutching a wheel of camembert cheese to her chest and wearing a big watery frown. Dad asks what's wrong and she bellows with utmost distress: "MY CHEESE IS SAD!" Dad trying to commiserate in between belly chuckles.

🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A tiny new human is being snuggled in Mum's arms as Mum sits in a park, gazing out over a gently rushing river. Tiny Human does not care for the view, however. Tiny Human's fast asleep. Blowing little milk-drunk bubbles. A picture of total serenity.
