No luck on car shopping today but we have some leads So he took mine, and I don't have to go to hockey sorts tonight! 🥳

My friend's dog went for a walk on crown lands, Vinz was cooling off after their run in the stream, when he got bodychecked by a salmon 😂 (The dogs were on leash & are allowed, they weren't pestering the fish & no fish were harmed just a dog emberassed) #JackRussellTerrier

Vinz being approached by a massive spawning salmon, he is related to my dogs

After being bodychecked by the salmon, the look on his face!

I told her she should have jumped in and grabbed it for dinner!!

I have a new fishing spot to try out, will probably leave my dogs at home

I know people have used Jacks to track fish for conservation but I dont know anyone has used them to fish 😆

Car shopping in the rain with my youngest I'm glad he finally listened to me and let me just take him around to Car dealerships Online is not the best way to find something in his price range, we've looked at lots that are in just 2 hours Even though I look like a muppet with all the frizz

Truffle's secret talent is finding bread On occasion she just appears with bread, and no one knows where she got it #JackRussellTerrier #DogSky

Truffle with a slice of stale bread

She didn't eat all of it, mostly just played keep away with the other girls then Poppy ate it when she got bored

This happens every few months, usually she pulls out full baguettes!?

The joys of life with teenagers and a dog who likes to stash food

As you can see, she is quite well fed but its a hold over from where she came from

We got into the new kitchen!!! Which is perfect timing because Chef has already upped our planned output to 200 meals And we're making a veggie borscht so there will be a lot of prep!!

Passed inspection

I don't share the name of where I volunteer because I've never asked to share things under their name, I didn't feel comfortable asking while we were still in the church space

Being worried that you'll be seen as less masculine bc you spoke up & stopped toxic male behaviour is such a bullshit excuse Both my kids have cut other boys out of their lives for repeated unwanted behaviour towards girls/women, after tell these other kids to stop it & their behaviour not changing

The average is 150, but last night 210 meals were served! Spent most of the day helping at the new kitchen, everyone is so excited to get into a larger space & cook more food!

Joining the cleaning brigade this morning, we've had an army of volunteers stopping by to help as they can

This space was given to us to use, it was a dive bar 20 years ago and no one has been down here for quite a few years, so part of the deal is we had to clean it & there has been a lot of hours put into scrubbing, steaming & mopping

Health Unit inspection is tomorrow, so we could be in as soon as this weekend if we pass - the toilets are still really gross though so I'm not sure we'll get it all done in time

What if it's a trilogy to encapsulate nerdfighteria? Everything is Tuberculosis, the fighting spirit Hollywood, Ending, the love What's next?? (also I really want a fanfic re-write of Mary & Aurthor as a P4A perk) To the other people: you don't need to understand any of these words, it's okay

I think I'm going to need someone who isn't going to make a whole YT video to explain to me why I'm not supposed to like Patient Zero Because that's literally my experience in a song. The really crazy one hasn't come to talk to me, but she's cornered me in a bathroom before Waiting on #3... #4?

Man. Guys, go volunteer. If you're too busy, If you're depressed, If you're not sure you have anything to give It might take a couple tries, but you will find your people & help make the world a better place. Ending the day in tears of laughter instead of sadness. It's an inside joke ❤️

I really want the mola & the H,E ending shirt, but my birthday* gift to myself this year is gonna have to be more bruscellosis testing for my dogs & genetic colour testing for the puppy I'm buying with a friend... People really don't know what dog breeders go through just to get shit on by RARAs

110

Vanessa 🍁 @nesfarm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

In case you ever wanted to see a dog with a LOT of poo in it's digestive system (The girls went this morning!!) And zero puppies ... The vet was pretty sure Cherry was carrying before the x-ray, where I was pretty sure Poppy had one... nope

X-ray of Poppy, no puppies

Their spines look good, so that's a plus...

Just inked the deal with my friend to co-own a new male pup, but we've also spent most of the day scrambling trying to figure out a next male to use

Poppy has had a litter before so I'm not in a rush to breed her again, but Cherry & Truffle have not, and breeding a dog for the first time at a later age is a risk

I've basically got one or two shots left to find the right male & the plans to work and then I'll retire & spay them for their long term health

Next time we'll be skipping dinner the night before, I am glad the new diet is working

130

Vanessa 🍁 @nesfarm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

I never bred my horse, but I had the intent & trying to pick the best stallion & looking up genetic markers & their offspring was so much fun Doing the same when you're working on preservation breeding, especially with a limited pool, is a LOT less fun & stressfull We're going to try again in Feb

120

Vanessa 🍁 @nesfarm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

The one upside today, is I really like the new vet I know a lot about dog care & medical terms (shocking, I know) When I was able to talk to her directly on her level she adjusted & talked to me like a peer not an average pet owner Which was so refreshing! Most vets just go through the spiel

050

Vanessa 🍁 @nesfarm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

I was pretty nervous headed into todays puppy count, you never know for sure but they weren't getting as big as they should have been, so I was hoping for at least a single, maybe 2 for each Nothing, No puppies. Vet thinks it was the male I'm over $1k into this litter & nothing to show for it 😭

Poppy & Cherry on the ride home

Absolutely devistated .

I was SURE I was feeling a puppy, but it's just her new diet and I was petting her poo... some professional breeder I am!! But her udder is swelling just slightly, I was so sure I was at least getting a single

So that was over $600 today for the devestating news

Plus it turns out Cherry has a heart murmour (gr2) which is news, so I'm already figuring out other testing because while she cleared genetically I need a second opinion on the murmour and then we're going to try and figure out the cause because if it's physiological I won't breed her, which also means we're loosing an entire line of JRTs

And speaking of which - the vet thinks the male must be shooting blanks :(

Which means we're also loosing his line

We're preservation breeders, so loosing a line is a big deal

Ugh. I'm gonna have a little cry then start looking for another male

Exactly this. I was just steering someone in the direction of a dog trainer this weekend because of leash reactivity, Relating the story of a friend of mine who has a leash reactive dog she got as a puppy, she is a dedicated trainer/seasoned owner, but it's been a battle He's doing well now

Very carefully pulled back the greens on the cob trying not to disturb the silks, just enough to see the popcorn kernels are growing well & germination looks alright!

These will be ready to harvest soon

This week is teriyaki chicken, veggie rice, cold glass noodle salad, butternut curry soup & chocolate cake I brought flowers again of course as well as some of the herbs & we used leaves from my meyer lemon instead of kafire lime leaves Hang tight, next week we're doing a Ukranian theme meal

curry butternut soup, which is delicious!

The meyer lemon threw a fit when I moved it in out of the cold for 2 days - which is just how they are, but it was great to be able to use the leaves instead of just composting them & they definitely added some flavour

Amaryllis are finally ready for storage, February blooms it is 😅 #GardenSky

3 amaryllis bulbs I've cleaned up

Silly me, I wasn't watering them through June/July so they should have been ready for storage mid August for December blooms

I wasn't thinking about how much it has been raining while they were outside, DUH

Pulled them out of pots a month ago and put them into a sunny but dry spot outside, so they've finally died back enough to store properly
