For the people here repeating the "fairness" line about trans inclusion in sports, Ohio had a fairly reasonable policy on this for years: e.g., MTF are allowed to participate in girls sports only after a year of HRT and they've been medically cleared not to have an advantage over peers.

An attempt at a photorealistic restoration of the primitive jawless fish Haikouichthys ercaicunensis that lived during the Cambrian period, 518 million years ago, in China.

The animal, which was roughly an inch long in life, presents here as a translucent, eel-like creature with a small, lobate extension from the head above the mouth; four eyes, two small ones homologous with the pineal/parapineal eyes of extant vertebrates and two larger ones; seven gills with filaments; a single fin running continuously dorsoventrally with fin radials. Within the body, a heart, a liver, an intestine, a notochord with vertebrae and numerous gonads arranged serially in a line similar to lancelets are visible.

W-shaped muscle segments, or myomeres, can also be seen. The skin possesses faint melanosomes, slightly darkening its otherwise translucent skin, and tiny iridophores — both speculative but likely considering both extant vertebrate groups (cyclostomes and gnathostomes) have them.

The animal is seen swimming in sunlit seawater, as is considered likely of myllokunmingiids generally.

Has anyone ever figured out what this Ediacaran specimen is? Has a paper ever been published? It was claimed to be a vertebrate back in the 00s. If so, this would be consistent with the greater possible chordate diversity discovered in the Ediacaran, from Alienum to Yarnemia. #FossilFriday

An Ediacaran fossil that was claimed to be a vertebrate due to its putatively fish-like body, long and eel-like with diagonal grooves pointing backward from a central ridge that bends to the side towards the end. Furrows that resemble fin radials are also present along the length of the specimen.
