A woman was drugged, raped, and sexually trafficked to members of a fraternity. Two of the men involved were expelled. Five were given the opportunity to mitigate suspension by *writing an essay.* The dozens of other men who knew this was happening and said nothing? You already know the answer.

It is breathtaking. Like many things these days it is hard, but necessary, to figure what is a continuity and what is a rupture. EdTech has always been a private sector parasite feeding off the public sector. The rupture is AI EdTech is experimenting on the rich instead of the poor.

It's worth noting that this isn't a random number but a goal that would simply restore the court to an earlier norm in which there's one justice for each of the judicial circuits. We used to have nine, we now have thirteen. The people defending the current setup have the tougher case to make here.

This is precisely the problem, right here: In an information environment dominated by social media and right-wing propaganda, it simply isn't possible for Democrats to carve out a hyper-specific, razor-thin ideological position like this.
What Ever Happened to the Young, Exciting Moderate Democrats?
Mr. Moulton’s bid exposes the dilemma of the center-left in a year when progressives seem to be notching win after win. Moderate Democrats must distinguish themselves from the left without antagonizing the energized Democratic base. They’re struggling to articulate a message of change that isn’t necessarily progressive change. And the 2024 fiasco has made it harder to argue that moderation is the only way to win elections.

there is no rhyme or reason to an entire “AI” department, much less an AI school. There is no curriculum, as such, because AI is not a school of thought. It has no theory, no method. It’s just a tool. Two or three courses, max, if someone is obsessed with it should suffice.

Wrote about the stolen valor behind the racist backlash to Nolan’s adaptation of the Odyssey. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
But of course neither Kelly nor Miller “built this country,” and they have as much to do with, say, the writing of The Odyssey or the painting of the Sistine Chapel as I do—the fact that Kelly and Miller are white does not make these accomplishments theirs. People who espouse these views do not value the classics for what they can teach us about the ancient world or our own, but as bleached marble monuments to their own superiority.

There is nothing wrong with taking pride in one’s ancestors (although Miller’s were actually poor persecuted Jews from Eastern Europe, not ancient Roman senators). Honoring and celebrating the past achievements of those ancestors, however, is different from taking credit for them. All Kelly and Miller did was win the lottery of being born in the richest country ever, one whose institutions and traditions they are busy helping destroy with as much zeal as the Greeks in Nolan’s film defiled the temple of Athena.
