Not super caring about your fantasy team is only a problem if you really want to win? Pick at random or for drama. Agree to every 3rd trade someone proposes and never explain. Lose every year, but be a part of it. You only turn to AI because you desperately want to win this game you don’t even like.

My point being that half-assing a fantasy football team is only a problem if you want to win. If it’s a social obligation you feel you must bow to, make a cursory team, agree to every proposed trade (becoming super popular), and move on. You only “need” AI because you want to win this game you hate.

I rode my bike to work every day this summer - took weeks for my boss to stop asking if I was going to borrow a car because it was supposed to rain tomorrow (not every day but it was a very wet summer). Could not comprehend the answer: no, I have gear.

New Haven is investing into bikeways in the next decade but it is pulling teeth to get them to put frequent exits on the paths to make it so they go places, not just in pretty circles. Also there’s a place where the bike lane crosses a busy road and they end the lane then pick up on the other side

My mom works for a university that was sued because she got the promotion a colleague of hers wanted. His suit basically amounted to fury that his white male-ness didn’t override her higher qualifications and ratings by both students and colleagues. Final judgment had a list of 12 reasons (1/2)

It reminds me of a retreat my union leadership had where we tried to map out even just potential plans to make things better. We could come up with first steps and we could imagine a better endgame but all the middle steps felt like a deep mystery. Our imaginations have a blind spot and its step 3.

Once, I was at a meeting about bus rapid transit and the city officials had prepared for the parking spot warriors…only to realize everyone in the room was mad because the lanes almost artfully cut off their businesses from the new services and thought getting rid of parking made more sense, etc

I have to limit my routes to the actual bike infrastructure (if it’s plowed) or the routes where the snow plows at least did a decent job of clearing the whole road. Starts to really limit things but drivers are not chill about sharing the narrowed roads.

It was particularly fun watching that video with a mathematician knitter (male) who took issue with how both sides of the false divide (knitting v science) were treated and immediately had 5 better examples of how knitters have helped mathematicians and scientists (not the other way around)
