#Hybridization patterns and research effort in #Asteraceae, a megadiverse and economically important plant family 📖 nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... by O'Connell et al. @noraflora10.bksy.social @ktinvasion.bsky.social
Graphical abstract. Plant hybridization is increasingly recognized as an important evolutionary process, and a deeper understanding of hybridization is necessary for its application to agriculture, conservation, and ecological solutions. Here, we assess correlates of hybridization in the megadiverse and societally important family Asteraceae and how and where hybrids have been identified over the past 50+ years. We find that researchers are increasingly using molecular tools to identify hybrids and that efforts are biased towards European and North American examples. Our findings highlight the need for geographic expansion of plant hybrid reporting to facilitate the identification of global patterns.

OMG, new pub: Leandra O'Connell, @noraflora10.bsky.social, and I ask, what's the deal with all that hybridization in the sunflower family? Hybridization patterns and research effort in Asteraceae, a megadiverse and economically important plant family nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/…

Kinda wild to me when I receive a manuscript to review that doesn't have page or line numbers. It's so obviously useful for review/editing, I don't understand why it's not required...?

Can anyone explain the status of the Fulbright Scholars Program to me? I am just now looking into it as a possibility for a future sabbatical, and it seems like... funding has been pulled and it is likely no longer a possibility? If it were still an option, roughly when would applications open?

🚨 Not a drill: NSF GRFP results are NOW OUT!!!!! But...good news and bad news. 👍 I'm *thrilled* for the grad students for whom getting this award will be life-changing, esp now. 👎 # of fellowships went down by 51% (1000 this year vs. 2036 last year) See here: www.research.gov/grfp/Awardee...

Look at this lil' guy! "Ovicula, meaning “tiny sheep,” refers to the thick, white hairs that cover the plant’s leaves and honors a more iconic endangered species in Big Bend: the bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis)." 😍

If you are sensitive to the heat, make sure to wear a mask over your mouth and nose and protect your eyes.Try adding this pepper to salsa recipes. It has a citrus, spicy flavor that is best enjoyed when the peppers are immature. You can also try making your own hot sauce with these peppers. Sauté them with olive oil, garlic, onion and salt, and after about 4 minutes add 2 cups of water. Heat the mixture for 20 minutes and then allow it to cool to room temperature before pureeing it in a food processor and adding vinegar.

SARS_CoV_2 maybe the most important biological invasion of our lifetime But infectious human diseases are rarely treated as Biological Invasions Collaborations between medical researchers & ecologists are vital to preventing future outbreaks #bioinvasions #biosecurity #onehealth #covid
